Thunderstorms developed in northern, western
and central Oklahoma during the evening hours
on the 5th and spread into portions of southern
Oklahoma. These storms produced hail up to
quarter size, damaging winds and damaging
lightning.
Thunderstorm winds tore the roof off a large
metal hay shed 7 miles northwest of Alva, blew
a grain bin 75 feet and downed numerous tree
limbs 1 mile north of Renfrow, knocked down
power lines in Enid, knocked down 3 inch
diameter tree limbs 3 miles east of Renfrow and
broke off tree limbs 8 miles west-southwest of
Davis.
Lightning started a fire in a home in the 5700
block of Irvine Drive in the Oak Tree Addition
in Edmond that caused an estimated $100,000 in
damage. Lightning started a fire which
produced minor damage to a warehouse on north
Santa Fe in Oklahoma City. Lightning started
two oil tank battery fires northwest of Enid.
Lightning started a small fire in a house in
Alva. Lightning killed two horses in Lexington.
The horses were worth around $5,000 each.

Thunderstorms developed in west-central
Oklahoma during the evening hours on the 6th and
moved into portions of southern Oklahoma. These
storms produced a tornado, hail up to 2
inches in diameter, damaging winds, damaging
lightning and flash flooding rains.
A tornado developed at 2029CST 5 miles
north-northwest of Foss and moved south-southeast 5.5
miles before dissipating 0.5 miles south of
Foss. This F1 tornado tore a section of the roof
off an abandoned gas station, blew a pickup
from a parking lot in a truck stop onto
Interstate 40, overturned 4 cars and 4 tractor
trailers on Interstate 40 closing both
directions of travel for several hours,
destroyed a mobile home, damaged an antenna, the roof
of a hay barn, a flagpole, a travel trailer and
the roofs of homes, blew the windows out of
a restaurant, tore a section of a roof off a
boat storage building, damaged or destroyed
several signs, uprooted trees and broke off
tree limbs. Two people received minor injuries
when the vehicle they were in was overturned on
Interstate 40.
Thunderstorm winds blew down large tree limbs
in Comanche and 9 miles east of Walters, downed
a large tree in Temple, knocked over a fence in
Grandfield, ripped a roof off a building at
a plant farm 3 miles southeast of Temple and
overturned an uninhabited mobile home 5.5 miles
west-southwest of Comanche
Hail up to half dollar size damaged automobiles
in Arapaho. Hail up to golfball size damaged
automobiles in Canute.
A lightning strike 9 miles south of Butler
damaged several television sets. Lightning struck
a house in Arapaho resulting in minor damage.
Heavy rainfall resulted in water from Beaver
Creek over a road 1 mile east of Arapaho.

morning hours on the 10th produced damaging
thunderstorm winds and damaging lightning.
Thunderstorm winds downed a power line in Hugo.
A lightning strike knocked a hole in the
kitchen wall of a house in Durant. Lightning struck
and killed 7 cows, 1 bull and 6 calves that
were seeking shelter under a tree near Bokchito.
In addition, 4 other calves were injured. The
loss was estimated from $7,000 to $8,000.
Lightning also struck another house in Durant.
No damage was reported.

Oklahoma during the early morning hours on the 11th
and moved southeast. These storms produced hail
up to half dollar size, damaging winds,
damaging lightning and flash flooding rains.
Thunderstorm winds broke off large tree limbs
8 miles west of Velma, 3 miles southwest of
Hastings and 7 miles south of Carnegie, downed
power lines and antennas, overturned a granary
and damaged trees in Corn, downed power lines
and broke off tree limbs in Alfalfa, blew the
roof off a barn and damaged a travel trailer on
the south side of Clinton and damaged roofs,
downed trees and signs and blew awnings off
buildings in Clinton.
Heavy rain resulted in a flooded road near the
gate 2 entrance to Fort Sill. Two vehicles
were stranded in the high water with one
vehicle overturning.
Lightning started a fire which destroyed a
house on the south side of Duncan. Damage to the
house was estimated at $60,000 with damage to
the contents of the house estimated at $30,000.
Lightning struck a tree and damaged a nearby
antenna in Corn. Lightning knocked out the
police department communication system and
destroyed a $10,000 recorder in Anadarko.

miles south-southeast of Amber, tore the roof
off a barn 5.5 miles south-southeast of Amber
and downed 4 inch diameter tree limbs 1 mile
north of Union City.
Three golfers seeking shelter from a
thunderstorm under trees were struck by lightning. The
lightning strike killed two men and injured the
third. A siren was sounded around 1245 CST
to warn the golfers of the approaching
thunderstorm. M53O,M51O.
Lightning killed 5 cows, 3 calves and 1 bull
just south of Calvin.

and damaging winds.
Thunderstorm winds tore the roof off and
damaged a wall of the Ole Waffle Shop, damaged
several homes, broke out windows, damaged
several signs, snapped power poles, overturned
tombstones, overturned an irrigation pivot,
uprooted trees and knocked down a fence in
Duncan. Thunderstorm winds at Duncan Municipal
Airport blew out windows, destroyed a hanger
and damaged 3 airplanes. Thunderstorm winds
destroyed a storage building and broke 2 large
plate glass windows at a car dealership south
of Duncan, overturned a trailer in southeast
Duncan, knocked down power lines and trees in
Comanche, tore the roof off a grocery store,
destroyed a barn, destroyed several sheds,
ripped shingles off a roof and broke tree limbs
in Waurika, ripped the roof off a store south
of Waurika, broke tree limbs in Durant and
ripped shingles from roofs from Ryan south
along route 81 to near Terral.
Hail up to golfball size in combination with
thunderstorm winds destroyed a satellite dish
in Durant.

Temperatures climbed to above 110 degrees in
southwest Oklahoma with reading in excess of 100
in northwest and central Oklahoma during the
afternoon hours on the 27th. The high
temperature of 120 degrees from the Oklahoma
Mesonet 4 miles south of Tipton tied the record
for the highest temperatures ever recorded in
the state. Additional high temperatures
included 119 degrees 3 miles south of Altus,
116 3 miles west of Gould, in Hollis and in
Chattanooga and 115 in Frederick and 3.5 miles
south of Altus. An 84 year old man who was
working on his car in northwest Oklahoma City
during the afternoon hours died from
hypothermia.

Thunderstorms developed in northwest Oklahoma
during the evening hours on the 29th and spread
southeastward during the night. Wind gusts to
90 mph and hail up to walnut size accompanied
these storms. In several locations, damaging
winds resulted in significant damage.
Thunderstorm winds broke out windows, ripped
shingles off roofs, damaged buildings, downed
power poles and broke off tree limbs in Enid.
In addition, a building under construction at
the Enid landfill sustained approximately
$36,000 in damage.
Thunderstorm winds blew out windows and downed
tree limbs in Cherokee, knocked a tree onto
a house and a camper and downed power lines and
trees in Alva, blew over a mobile home 3
miles west of Indiahoma, blew roofs off of boat
houses near the south end of Lake Ellsworth
4 miles west-northwest of Elgin, knocked down
a radio antenna and trees 5 miles northwest of
Oakwood, knocked downed power lines east of
Frederick, ripped a section of the roof off a
gymnasium in Geronimo, damaged roofs and a
greenhouse, broke plate glass windows, blew down
fences and uprooted trees in Temple, overturned
a tractor trailer 3 miles south of Cookietown
on Interstate 44, downed power lines in
Hastings, blew a camper over, damaged the Waurika
Lake Marina, damaged several boats and sank one
boat 3 miles northeast of Hastings, destroyed
a roof and a barn just east of Hollis and
deposited them across route 62, downed power lines
in Hollis and knocked down 28 power poles from
just west of Hollis to 2 miles west of Hollis
closing route 62 for over 9 hours. Thunderstorm
winds also broke off large tree limbs in
Tonkawa, Covington, Colony, Comanche, west of
Jefferson, just north of Hydro, 6 NNE Elk City,
Foss Lake State Park and 5 miles southeast of
Gould, downed a police antenna and a sign in
Butler, overturned an unoccupied mobile home
tore the roof off another mobile home and
destroyed a fireworks stand in Clinton, tore
half of the roof off an Economy Inn in Canute,
knocked trees down into power lines, downed
power poles and tore shingles off of roofs in Elk
City, downed a power pole in Burns Flat, downed
power lines and trees in Waurika, ripped
shingles off a house 1 mile north of Moorewood,
ripped shingles off of houses and knocked
down large tree limbs in Granite, damaged the
doors of a church and trees in Anadarko, tore
the roof off a trailer, knocked down power
poles and trees in Mangum, knocked down 14 power
poles from Walters to 1.5 miles west of
Walters, downed power poles south of Thomas, blew
over trees and knocked down power lines in
Medford and knocked down a large tree in Garber.
Lightning started two house fire near Geronimo.
Two minor injuries were reported. In
addition, lightning started a house fire 1.5
miles southeast of Comanche. Lightning started
a house fire in Alva. Lightning destroyed 4
electric transformers, a fire station radio and
a ceiling fan and damaged television sets and
computers in Clinton, damaged 2 transformers,
an electric pole and 2 conductors in Stillwater
and several transformers in Frederick.
Lightning started a fire that destroyed a home
in Faxon. Lightning struck a water well west
of Jefferson which burnt out the motor.

Durant
A thunderstorm in southeast Oklahoma during the
early morning hours on the 30th produced
damaging winds.
Thunderstorm winds estimated at 65 mph downed
at least 30 trees, some power lines, broke off
6 to 8 inch tree limbs and tossed a trampoline
onto the roof of a house in Durant. A house
was damaged in Durant when thunderstorm winds
blew a tree down on top of it.
