A POWERFUL UPPER LEVEL RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE COMBINED WITH THE
ONGOING DROUGHT CONDITIONS HAVE LED TO ALL TIME RECORD HEAT
ACROSS MIDDLE TENNESSEE TODAY. MANY LOCATIONS REACHED THEIR
HIGHEST TEMPERATURES EVER RECORDED.

JUNE CONTINUED THE TREND OF ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES IN NASHVILLE
FOR THE 8TH CONSECUTIVE MONTH. THE FIRST HALF OF JUNE 2012 WAS
ACTUALLY BELOW NORMAL IN TEMPERATURE BUT I DOUBT THAT ANYONE
REMEMBERS THOSE COOLER TEMPERATURES AS THE LAST HALF WAS WELL
ABOVE NORMAL. THE MONTH ENDED 1.3 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL BUT THE
BIG NEWS WAS THE RECORD HEAT. NASHVILLE BROKE ITS RECORD HIGH
TEMPERATURE FOR THE MONTH OF JUNE WITH 109 DEGREES ON JUNE 29TH.
THE PREVIOUS RECORD FOR THE MONTH OF JUNE WAS 106 DEGREES SET ON
JUNE 30TH 1952. THE 109 DEGREES ALSO BROKE THE ALL-TIME RECORD
HIGH TEMPERATURE AT NASHVILLE SET PREVIOUSLY ON JULY 27TH AND 28TH
1952.

THERE WAS ONE HIGHEST DAILY MINIMUM TEMPERATURE RECORD SET. THE
LOW TEMPERATURE FOR JUNE 30TH WAS 80 DEGREES BREAKING THE OLD
RECORD OF 77 DEGREES SET IN 1941.

RAINFALL...FOR JUNE 2012 TOTALED ONLY 0.26 INCH WHICH IS 3.88 INCHES
BELOW NORMAL. JUNE 2012 WAS THE DRIEST JUNE SINCE 1936 WHEN ONLY
0.21 INCH OF RAIN FELL. IN 1988 JUST UNDER AN HALF INCH OF RAIN
FELL MAKING IT THE THIRD DRIEST JUNE ON RECORD.

RAINFALL FOR JANUARY THROUGH JUNE OF 2012 HAS TOTALED 18.18 INCHES AT
NASHVILLE. THIS IS 7.26 INCHES BELOW NORMAL...AND RANKS AS THE 13TH
DRIEST FIRST SIX MONTHS OF ANY YEAR ON RECORD. LAST YEAR WE HAD
29.37 INCHES RAIN DURING THE FIRST SIX MONTHS OF 2011.

WITH RECORD HEAT AND LACK OF RAINFALL THE DROUGHT HAS CONTINUED TO
EXPAND ACROSS MIDDLE TENNESSEE WITH PARTS OF THE MID STATE IN A
SEVERE DROUGHT. THERE HAVE BEEN REPORTS OF WATER QUALITY AND WATER
SUPPLY ISSUES IN MIDDLE TENNESSEE...MAINLY DUE TO LOW WATER LEVELS
IN AREA CREEKS AND STREAMS WHERE THE WATER IS DRAWN FROM. SOME
AGRICULTURAL IMPACTS ARE BEGINNING TO DEVELOP.

THERE WERE 4 DAYS WITH THUNDERSTORMS IN JUNE 2012 AT NASHVILLE. ON
AVERAGE THERE ARE 8 DAYS WITH THUNDERSTORMS DURING THE MONTH OF
JUNE.

THE AVERAGE WIND SPEED WAS 5.7 MILES AN HOUR. THE FASTEST GUST WAS
31 MILES AN HOUR ON THE 11TH AND THE 30TH.

FOG OCCURRED ON 5 DAYS.

NO TORNADOES OCCURRED IN MIDDLE TENNESSEE DURING THE MONTH OF JUNE
2012.

CLARKSVILLE WAS ABOVE NORMAL IN TEMPERATURE FOR JUNE 2012. THE
TEMPERATURE AVERAGED 0.8 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL FOR THE MONTH. THE
AVERAGE HIGH WAS 89.6 DEGREES AND THE AVERAGE LOW WAS 61.0
DEGREES.

THE TEMPERATURE REACHED 109 DEGREES ON JUNE 29TH AT THE NATIONAL
WEATHER SERVICE OBSERVING SITE AT OUTLAW FIELD. THIS WAS SHORT OF THE
ALL-TIME RECORD HIGH FOR CLARKSVILLE OF 112 DEGREES ON JULY 7TH
1925. THE CLARKSVILLE SEWAGE PLANT REACHED 108 ON JUNE 29TH...BREAKING
THEIR ALL-TIME RECORD OF 106 DEGREES SET IN 2007. THERE WERE 3
DAYS IN JUNE OF TRIPLE DIGIT TEMPERATURES. THERE WERE 16 DAYS OF
90 DEGREES AND ABOVE.

JUNE WAS A VERY DRY MONTH IN CLARKSVILLE WITH ONLY 0.38 INCH OF
RAIN. THIS IS 4.10 INCHES BELOW NORMAL.

THERE WERE 4 DAYS WITH THUNDERSTORMS.

THE AVERAGE WIND SPEED WAS 5.2 MILES AN HOUR. THE FASTEST GUST WAS
43 MILES AN HOUR ON THE 11TH.

FOG OCCURRED ON 9 DAYS.
