New River Forecast Services for Mill Creek at Nashville

...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TO PROVIDE NEW RIVER FORECAST SERVICES
FOR MILL CREEK...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE FORECAST OFFICE IN NASHVILLE, TN, AND
THE OHIO RIVER FORECAST CENTER (OHRFC) IN WILMINGTON, OH, WILL SOON
PROVIDE RIVER STAGE FORECASTS FOR TWO AUTOMATED GAUGE LOCATIONS ON
MILL CREEK IN METRO NASHVILLE. BEGINNING JANUARY 9, 2012, DAILY
FORECASTS FOR MILL CREEK NEAR ANTIOCH, AND MILL CREEK AT THOMPSON
LANE NEAR WOODBINE WILL BE AVAILABLE TO HELP PROTECT THE LIVES AND
PROPERTY OF RESIDENTS IN SOUTHEAST DAVIDSON COUNTY.

FLOOD STAGE AT ANTIOCH IS SET AT 14 FEET, WITH MODERATE FLOODING
OCCURRING AT 17 FEET AND MAJOR FLOODING OCCURRING AT 20 FEET. AT 14
FEET, FLOODING OF INDUSTRIAL AREAS NEAR THE CREEK BEGINS, AS WELL AS
EZELL ROAD PARK AND ANTIOCH PARK. AT 17 FEET, FURTHER FLOODING OF
PARKS AND INDUSTRIAL AREAS IS OCCURRING, WITH MANY ROADS NEAR THE
CREEK BECOMING FLOODED AND IMPASSABLE. AT 20 FEET THERE IS
WIDESPREAD FLOODING OF COMMERCIAL, RESIDENTIAL, AND INDUSTRIAL AREAS
AND ROADWAYS ALONG THE CREEK. DURING THE FLOOD OF MAY 2010 THE WATER
LEVEL ON MILL CREEK NEAR ANTIOCH REACHED 26.10 FEET.

MILL CREEK NEAR WOODBINE BEGINS TO FLOOD AT 14 FEET, WITH MODERATE
FLOODING OCCURRING AT 17 FEET AND MAJOR FLOODING OCCURRING AT 21
FEET. AT 14 FEET, RESIDENTIAL PROPERTIES ALONG MILL CREEK BEGIN TO
FLOOD. AT 17 FEET, RESIDENTIAL, COMMERCIAL, AND INDUSTRIAL AREAS,
ALONG WITH MANY ROADS ARE FLOODED. AT 21 FEET, EXTENSIVE FLOODING
ALONG MILL CREEK FROM THE SPACE PARK INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX TO THE
CUMBERLAND RIVER IS OCCURRING. THE WATER LEVEL ON MILL CREEK NEAR
WOODBINE REACHED 21.37 FEET DURING THE MAY FLOOD.

THE OHIO RIVER FORECAST CENTER CREATES THE RIVER STAGE FORECASTS
WHICH ARE THEN FORWARDED TO THE NASHVILLE FORECAST OFFICE FOR
DISSEMINATION TO THE PUBLIC. OTHER RIVER FORECAST POINTS IN THE
NASHVILLE AREA INCLUDE THE CUMBERLAND RIVER AT NASHVILLE, AND THE
HARPETH RIVER NEAT BELLEVUE. THE OHRFC PROVIDES FORECASTS FOR RIVERS
THAT DRAIN INTO THE CUMBERLAND RIVER IN MIDDLE TENNESSEE, AS WELL AS
OTHER RIVERS AND STREAMS THAT MAKE UP THE OHIO RIVER BASIN.

WFO NASHVILLE PROVIDES WEATHER SERVICES FOR 39 COUNTIES IN MIDDLE
TENNESSEE. THE WFO COLLECTS METEOROLOGICAL DATA; PREPARES AND
DISSEMINATES WEATHER FORECASTS, RIVER AND FLOOD FORECASTS AND
WARNINGS; AND,ISSUES SEVERE WEATHER WATCHES AND WARNINGS TO THE
PUBLIC.
