.....EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR THE WESTERN ONE THIRD
OF MIDDLE TENNESSEE UNTIL 7 PM CDT TODAY...

...HEAT ADVISORY CONTINUES FOR PORTIONS OF CENTRAL AND EASTERN
MIDDLE TENNESSEE UNTIL 7 PM CDT TODAY...

THE EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING INCLUDES AREAS ALONG AND WEST OF A LINE
FROM MONTGOMERY COUNTY SOUTHWARD TO GILES COUNTY. THE ADVISORY AREA
INCLUDES MOST AREAS EAST OF THE AFOREMENTIONED LINE.

A STRONG UPPER LEVEL HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL KEEP HOT TEMPERATURES
ALONG WITH HUMID CONDITIONS ACROSS ALL OF MIDDLE TENNESSEE THROUGH
TODAY. HEAT INDEX READINGS WILL REACH 110 DEGREES THIS AFTERNOON
IN PARTS OF WESTERN MIDDLE TENNESSEE WHILE THE REMAINDER OF THE AREA
WILL REACH 102 TO 107 DEGREES. THIS IS THE MOST INTENSE HEAT WAVE IN
MIDDLE TENNESSEE SINCE AUGUST OF 2007.

EXPECTED HIGH TEMPERATURES THIS AFTERNOON WILL REACH 98 DEGREES IN
NASHVILLE...AND 97 DEGREES IN CLARKSVILLE.

THE RECORD HIGH TEMPERATURE IN NASHVILLE FOR AUGUST 5TH IS 102
DEGREES SET BACK IN 1947.

IF YOU HAVE TO BE OUTDOORS...

* SLOW DOWN.

* REDUCE OR ELIMINATE STRENUOUS ACTIVITIES.

* NEVER...EVER LEAVE A CHILD IN A CAR...NOT EVEN FOR A MINUTE.
TEMPERATURES CAN SOAR TO DEADLY LEVELS QUICKLY.

* MAKE SURE PETS HAVE PLENTY OF FRESH WATER AND ARE IN A COOL
