HEAVY RAINFALL POSSIBLE THIS WEEKEND
Middle Tennessee could be looking at a very wet weekend coming up this Saturday and Sunday. And given the heavy rainfall received around the area last weekend, flooding could be a very real concern. Below is map of CoCoRaHS rainfall totals from last Saturday (4/24).
Many locations around Middle Tennessee received over two inches of rainfall, with some locations receiving three to nearly four inches in this 24 hour period. With much of this moisture still in place, any additional large quantity of rainfall could saturate the soil quickly and cause localized flooding.
As a low pressure system approaches the region Friday night into Saturday, rainfall chances will increase...along with forecast rainfall amounts. Below is the Quantitative Precipitation Forecast (QPF) from the Hydrometeorological Prediction Center (HPC), which shows the forecast rainfall amounts from Saturday morning through Monday morning (5/1-5/3). Some areas in the western portion of Middle Tennessee could receive 3 to 4 inches of rain with locally higher amounts possible in this timeframe, which could cause flooding, especially in low lying areas and areas with poor drainage systems.
This event is still several days away, and this forecast is subject to change. Make sure to keep up to date with the latest forecast from the National Weather Service as the weekend draws closer. For the latest QPF information, click here.
