3rd Coldest Start To Any Year On Record

Nashville Off To A Cold Start To The New Year

The new year (2010) in Nashville is off to its coldest start since 1942 and the 3rd coldest on record.  It's been 68 years since Nashville has experienced such cold weather this early in January. The first 10 days of January of this year have averaged 20.9 degrees which is 16.1 degrees below normal. Normal high this time of  year is 45 degrees and the normal low is 25 degrees. During this 10 day stretch the average daily high temperature has been only 28.0 degrees while the average daily low has been a very cold 13.7 degrees. The coldest temperature in Nashville during this stretch was 8 degrees on the 10th...while the warmest was 37 degrees on the 1st. Nashville's high temperature on the 8th was only 18 degrees...making it the first time since February 4th 1996 that the temperature has failed to reach the 20 degree mark for a daily high. Around an inch of snow has fallen so far this month in Nashville.
