As the first month of the meteorological winter nears an end it might be of interest to take a look at how cold it's been so far this winter here in Middle Tennessee.
On the morning of December 11th 2009 (see map below) a rather strong high pressure area was centered over the southeastern U.S. Middle Tennessee was near the center of the high and with light winds and clear skies which allowed for good radiational cooling the temperature at Nashville fell to 15 degrees while Clarksville had 17 degrees and Crossville 14 degrees. These are the coldest temperatures so far this winter season.
