Winter Solstice

The winter solstice occurred late Sunday afternoon, on December 21st
at  503 pm cst
.  At that time,
the sun was directly overhead at the Tropic
of Capricorn and this marked the beginning of the astronomical  winter.

The winter solstice marks the shortest day and the longest night of the
year. Today is the first full day of winter...and to many people's delight,
the days will gradually be getting longer from now until the summer
solstice, next June.
