On Wednesday, June 12, 2013, the National Weather Service in Midland hosted a media workshop for local television meteorologists and other media partners to show examples and discuss concepts of the new Dual Pol radar.
WFO Midland forecaster Rick Hluchan was the key note presenter at the event, providing an hour long seminar. After the seminar, Mr. Hluchan and other staff members fielded questions from our media partners and conducted both live and recorded interviews.
In total, 13 partners attended the workshop, including all but one meteorologist from the 3 major networks of the Midland market. Our primary print media partners, The Midland Reporter Telegram and the Odessa American, were also in attendance. Interviews were conducted with these partners, as well as, with a representative from KCRS 550 AM, the primary EAS station in the WFO Midland County Warning Area.
Finally, warning operations and the use of both social media services and the NWSChat were discussed. Dual Pol reference guides were provided to attendees as well. Overall, the workshop was a giant success, and provided an outstanding opportunity for the majority of our staff to meet some of our key partners.
