NWS JAX To Discontinue Issuing Lake Wind Advisories

Public Information Statement
National Weather Service Jacksonville FL
700 PM EDT Thu May 1 2014

The National Weather Service in Jacksonville Florida will
discontinue issuing Lake Wind Advisories on June 1st 2014.

However...we will issue Wind Advisories when sustained winds
are at least 25 mph, or there are gusts to at least 35 mph
for any duration.

The reason for the decision to discontinue the lake wind
advisory is that the threshold for one is only slightly
less than for a wind advisory. This small difference in
thresholds can create confusion especially if both are
in effect at the same time in our area of responsibility.

Any questions or concerns should be directed to Meteorologist
In Charge, Scott Cordero at scott.cordero@noaa.gov or Warning
Preparedness Meteorologist Al Sandrik at al.sandrik@noaa.gov.
