Squall Line Thunderstorms January 11, 2014

On Saturday January 11, 2014, a line of thunderstorms pushed through southeast Georgia and northeast Florida. Widespread showers and scattered embedded thunderstorms moved through the forecast region. No tornadoes were reported, but a tornado warning was issued shortly after 230 pm for the Suwannee Valley area in the mid-afternoon as a strong thunderstorm developed.

Numerous reports of strong winds were received from area observations generally in the 40 to 55 mph range. The highest report received, in a severe thunderstorm, was 62 mph measured at the Lake City municipal airport. Rainfall reports were generally half an inch to just over 1 inch. There was a west to east stripe of heavier rainfall associated with squall line across the Suwannee Valley area where reports of 2.5 inches were received.
