Radar Detects Pumpkin Hill Wildfire

Radar Helps Detect and Track Smoke Plume from Pumpkin Hill Wildfire
Angie Enyedi

The Pumpkin Hill wildfire smoke plume was detected by National Weather Service Doppler Radar this afternoon, and as winds shifted from the east to southeast, the smoke plume shifted from the west to northwest of the fire site as seen in the below image. Reports of reduced visibilities and ash were reported near and downwind of the fire site this afternoon.  There is concern that as winds decrease after sunset, the combination of smoke and developing fog will create dangerous visibilities across much of northeast Duval county and southern Nassau county. The smoke may settle as fall inland as the Interstate 95 corridor north of the Trout River and into southern Nassau county.
