This U.S. Forest Service site is located in a grassy opening on a ridge top in southeast Greene County (elevation of 2300 feet MSL) near the Paint Creek campground. Since the site is located on top of a ridge, it has good wind exposure, especially in the south and west directions. Tall trees (extending above the anemometer) are located around 50 feet to the north and east of the site. This site’s location in the foothills of the Appalachians makes it a good place to observe high winds due to mountain waves.
