This TN Division of Forestry is located in Jefferson County, Tennessee off of Hwy 92, around 3.5 miles south of US HWY 11E. The elevation of the site is 1750 feet MSL, and it’s on the top of Bays Mountain behind and above Holy Trinity Catholic Church (400-500 feet higher than Jefferson City). The instrument shelter is located at ground level, but the wind equipment is 85 feet above the ground on top of a very old wooden fire tower. Prevailing winds tend to be from the southwest or northeast due to its location in the Great Tennessee Valley. Also, the wind speeds are usually stronger than the surrounding area, since the wind equipment is located above the trees on top of the tower.
