NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MOBILE AL
1135 AM CST SUN JAN 20 2008

...WINTER STORM BRINGS BAND OF SNOW TO THE DEEP SOUTH...

A STRONG AREA OF LOW PRESSURE THAT MOVED EAST ACROSS THE NORTHEAST
GULF BROUGHT A COLD NORTHERLY WIND AND A WIDESPREAD MIX OF WINTRY
PRECIPITATION TO THE DEEP SOUTH TODAY. TEMPERATURES GENERALLY
REMAINED WARM ENOUGH FOR MOST OF THE PRECIPITATION TO FALL AS
RAIN...OR A MIX OF RAIN, SLEET AND SNOW...ALONG AND SOUTH OF A LINE
FROM HATTIESBURG MS...THROUGH MONROEVILLE AL...TO TROY AL.

HOWEVER...TEMPERATURES NORTH OF THAT LINE HELD NEARLY STEADY IN THE
LOWER 30S...RESULTING A BAND OF SNOW WITH A MAXIMUM SNOWFALL
ACCUMULATION OF UP TO 4 INCHES. ACCORDING TO REPORTS OF TOTAL SNOW
DEPTH ON THE GROUND AND RADAR PRECIPITATION ESTIMATES...THE AXIS OF
THE HEAVIEST SNOW BAND OCCURRED ACROSS THE NORTHWEST PORTION OF OUR
COUNTY WARNING AREA. THIS AREA INCLUDES...WAYNE COUNTY IN
MISSISSIPPI...AND CHOCTAW, NORTHERN WASHINGTON, CENTRAL AND NORTHERN
CLARKE, WESTERN WILCOX, AND EXTREME NORTHWEST MONROE COUNTIES IN
ALABAMA.

BELOW IS A COMPILATION OF TOTAL SNOW DEPTH REPORTED ACROSS THE SNOW
BAND REGION. MOST AREAS LIKELY RECEIVED SLIGHTLY HIGHER SNOWFALL
AMOUNTS COMPARE TO THE REPORTED SNOW DEPTH DUE TO MELTING AND
SETTLING...
