Average number of rip current rescue victims for each month along with data availability for three East Central Florida counties. Volusia county (where Daytona Beach is located) has by far the greatest number of rip current rescues. Ocean temperatures in the 50s and 60s during December, January and February result in few rescues there. Martin county (east of Lake Okeechobee) actually has more rip current rescues during these months due to the warmer Gulf Stream waters just offshore.
