...WARMER THAN NORMAL TEMPERATURES AND NEAR TO ABOVE NORMAL RAINFALL
OCCURRED ACROSS EAST CENTRAL FLORIDA IN MAY 2012...

WITH NO SIGNIFICANT FRONTAL PASSAGES DURING MAY 2012...TEMPERATURES 
AVERAGED WARMER THAN NORMAL ACROSS ALL OF EAST CENTRAL FLORIDA. 
OCCASIONAL SEA BREEZE GENERATED SHOWERS AND STORMS OCCURRED DURING 
THE MONTH. THIS BROUGHT ABOVE NORMAL RAINFALL TO MUCH OF THE 
AREA...BUT A FEW SITES WERE STILL A LITTLE DRIER THAN NORMAL.

.TEMPERATURES...
AVERAGE MONTHLY TEMPERATURE DEPARTURES WERE BETWEEN 1 AND 2 DEGREES 
ABOVE NORMAL ACROSS EAST CENTRAL FLORIDA. ONLY A FEW RECORD 
TEMPERATURES OCCURRED DURING THE MONTH.

RECORD TEMPERATURES FOR THE MONTH:

-ORLANDO HAD A RECORD WARM LOW TEMPERATURE OF 73 DEGREES ON THE 25TH.

-VERO BEACH HAD A RECORD HIGH TEMPERATURE OF 94 DEGREES ON THE 30TH 
AND A RECORD WARM LOW TEMPERATURE OF 73 DEGREES ON THE 13TH.

THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE VALUES FOR MAY 2012 AT THE FOUR MAIN CLIMATE 
SITES ACROSS EAST CENTRAL FLORIDA ARE AS FOLLOWS (RANKINGS PROVIDED 
IF IN THE TOP 10):

-DAYTONA BEACH HAD AN AVERAGE MONTHLY TEMPERATURE OF 76.7 DEGREES 
FAHRENHEIT, WHICH WAS 1.7 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL. THIS TIED 2009, 2008 
AND 1948 FOR THE 10TH WARMEST MAY ON RECORD. 

-ORLANDO HAD AN AVERAGE MONTHLY TEMPERATURE OF 78.5 DEGREES 
FAHRENHEIT, WHICH WAS 1.2 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL.

-MELBOURNE HAD AN AVERAGE MONTHLY TEMPERATURE OF 77.5 DEGREES 
FAHRENHEIT, WHICH WAS 1.2 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL. THIS RANKED AS THE 
8TH WARMEST MAY ON RECORD.

-VERO BEACH HAD AN AVERAGE MONTHLY TEMPERATURE OF 78.0 DEGREES 
FAHRENHEIT, WHICH WAS 1.8 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL. THIS RANKED AS THE 
6TH WARMEST MAY ON RECORD.

.RAINFALL...
MAY TYPICALLY HAS A GRADUAL INCREASE IN SEA BREEZE GENERATED SHOWERS 
AND STORMS. THIS YEAR...THERE WAS A NOTICEABLE INCREASE IN RAINFALL 
AFTER A WEAK FRONT PUSHED INTO THE AREA ON THE 7TH. NORTHERN 
SECTIONS DID NOT RECEIVE AS MUCH OF THE SEA BREEZE GENERATED SHOWERS 
AND STORMS DURING THE MONTH...BUT THE FRINGE EFFECT OF TROPICAL STORM 
BERYL BROUGHT SOME MUCH NEEDED RAINFALL TO THOSE AREAS LATE IN THE 
MONTH.

MAY 2012 RAINFALL TOTALS FOR THE FOUR MAIN CLIMATE SITES ACROSS EAST 
CENTRAL FLORIDA ARE AS FOLLOWS (RANKINGS PROVIDED IF IN THE TOP 10):

-DAYTONA BEACH RECEIVED 3.15 INCHES OF RAIN FOR THE MONTH, WHICH 
WAS 0.02 INCHES ABOVE NORMAL.

-ORLANDO RECEIVED 3.62 INCHES OF RAIN FOR THE MONTH, WHICH WAS 
0.17 INCHES ABOVE NORMAL.

-MELBOURNE RECEIVED 6.17 INCHES OF RAIN FOR THE MONTH, WHICH WAS 
2.88 INCHES ABOVE NORMAL. THIS RANKED AS THE 10TH WETTEST MAY ON 
RECORD.

-VERO BEACH RECEIVED 5.76 INCHES OF RAIN FOR THE MONTH, WHICH WAS 
2.40 INCHES ABOVE NORMAL.
