July 25 1997 LISDAD Severe Storm Case

 

The large scale image above is a severe storm caught on LISDAD. The storm in question is Storm number 6. Its' plot is the upper right pop up box in the image. Below is a blow up of this box:

 
 

Storm cell 6 was warned for at 703 pm (2303 UTC), or 50 minutes prior to the "0" obs time of this pop-up box (23:53 UTC). Note how the total lightning rapidly increases from 50 FPM to 275 FPM aproximately 8 minutes prior to the warning being issued. This rapid increase occurred in about 4 minutes. The LSR for this storm indicated severe weather occurred at 2315 and 2330 with this cell in the Debary/ Deltona area. The flash rates during this time were summarized below:

2315 UTC - 120 FPM

2330 UTC - 150 FPM

The flash rate at the time of the warning (23:53 UTC) was 150 FPM.

The maximum flash rate for this cell occurred around 2255 UTC, and was aproximately 275 FPM
