Miami-Dade County Is StormReady Through 2011!
From left to right: Rob Molleda, WFO Miami Warning Coordination Meteorologist, Frank Reddish, Miami-Dade County DEM Recovery and Infrastructure Manager, and Doug Bass, Miami-Dade County DEM Director.
On Wednesday, September 17, 2008, National Weather Service and
Miami-Dade County Department of Emergency Management (DEM)
representatives participated in a StormReady sign presentation
which was held during the quarterly Local Mitigation Strategy meeting
held at the John D. Campbell Agricultural Center in Homestead.
Miami-Dade County became the second South Florida county to fully renew
their StormReady recognition in 2008. Collier County was the first
South Florida county to accomplish this back in March. Both
counties successfully met and exceeded the guidelines required for
StormReady recognition, and their hard work and dedication have been
well illustrated during the tropical cyclone threats of August and
September 2008.
2008 A Busy Year For StormReady in South Florida
Besides the full re-recognition of Collier and Miami-Dade counties,
2008 has welcomed Florida Atlantic University to the StormReady family
as the first South Florida University to achieve this
recognition. In December 2007, the Mediterra and Twin Eagles
communities of Collier County became StormReady Supporters. Glades
County will be renewing their status in the coming weeks, with
Hendry, Broward and Palm Beach counties up for renewal in 2009. WFO
Miami has been working with several other local entities on the
guidelines and criteria for first-time StormReady recognition. Stay
tuned for these updates!
