NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MEMPHIS TN
439 PM CDT TUE JUL 5 2005
...HURRICANE FORCE WINDS STRIKE POCAHONTAS ARKANSAS...
A NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SURVEY TEAM DETERMINED THAT DAMAGING
THUNDERSTORM WINDS STRUCK POCAHONTAS ARKANSAS (RANDOLPH COUNTY)
LATE IN THE AFTERNOON ON JULY FOURTH. THE GREATEST DAMAGE WAS
LOCATED ON THE NORTHWEST SIDE OF POCAHONTAS. THE WINDS STRUCK THE
KPOC RADIO STATION...DAMAGING A PORTION OF THEIR ROOF AND KNOCKING
THEM OFF THE AIR. IN ADDITION...SIGNIFICANT STRUCTURAL DAMAGE WAS
DONE TO COMMERCIAL BUILDINGS ON HIGHWAY 67...NEAR MANSKER CREEK.
WINDS WITH THIS STORM WERE ESTIMATED AT 80 MPH. SEVERAL LARGE TREES
AND POWER LINES WERE ALSO DOWNED BY THESE SEVERE WINDS.


THE WINDS WERE NOT TORNADIC...RATHER THEY WERE STRAIGHT-LINED. NO
INJURIES OR DEATHS RESULTED FROM THIS THUNDERSTORM.
