...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SURVEY TORNADO DAMAGE IN WEST
TENNESSEE...

A NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DAMAGE SURVEY TEAM DETERMINED THAT A
TORNADO TRACKED FROM THE DOUBLE BRIDGES TO POPLAR GROVE AREA IN
LAUDERDALE COUNTY THEN MOVED TO JUST EAST OF FOWLKES IN DYER
COUNTY. THE TRACK WAS CONTINUOUS.

THE TORNADO WAS RATED AN EF1 (ENHANCED FUJITA SCALE)...WITH
APPROXIMATELY 100 TO 110 MILE AN HOUR WINDS. SEVERAL HOUSES WERE
HEAVILY DAMAGED IN THE POPLAR GROVE AREA...AND A MOBILE HOME WAS
DESTROYED IN DOUBLE BRIDGES. THE TORNADO DAMAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY
25 YARDS WIDE. THE TORNADO WAS ABOUT 7 MILES LONG. THERE WERE NO
INJURIES OR DEATHS.

...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DAMAGE SURVEY COMPLETED IN EASTERN
ARKANSAS...

IT HAS BEEN DETERMINED THAT STRAIGHT LINE WINDS BETWEEN 65 AND 75
MPH WERE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DAMAGE AT THE INTERSECTION OF WEST
MATTHEWS AVENUE AND GEE STREET IN JONESBORO.

TWO SEPARATE EF-1 TORNADO TRACKS WERE DISCOVERED ACROSS EASTERN
ARKANSAS.

THE FIRST TORNADO TOUCHED DOWN IN DECKERVILLE ON LUCAS ROAD JUST
SOUTH OF HIGHWAY 63. THE TORNADO WAS 25 YARDS WIDE AND 250 YARDS
LONG. TWO HOMES SUSTAINED ROOF DAMAGE AND AN UTILITY AND PARKING
SHED WERE COMPLETELY DESTROYED. NUMEROUS TREES WERE DOWN IN THE AREA
WITH DEBRIS SCATTERED ACROSS A NEARBY FIELD. NO INJURIES OR
FATALITIES OCCURRED AT THIS LOCATION.

THE SECOND TORNADO FORMED JUST SOUTHWEST OF DRIVER AND LIFTED
NORTHEAST OF GRIDER. THE TORNADO WAS 75 YARDS WIDE...WITH A LENGTH
OF 3.5 MILES. NUMEROUS HOUSES SUSTAINED ROOF DAMAGE AND MANY TREES
WERE DOWN ALONG THE PATH OF THE TORNADO. PEOPLE WERE INITIALLY
TRAPPED IN A RESIDENCE BUT WERE RESCUED. A METAL FARM EQUIPMENT
BUILDING AT U.S. HIGHWAY 61 AND SOUTH COUNTY ROAD 503 SHIFTED OFF ITS
FOUNDATION. NO INJURIES OR FATALITIES OCCURRED WITH THIS TORNADO.
