...NWS damage survey for 05/22/16 tornado event...

.Overview...

On May 23, 2016, meteorologists from the National Weather Service
in Midland conducted a damage survey over portions of Howard and
Glasscock counties for damage caused by severe thunderstorms
during the evening hours of Sunday, May 22. It was determined that
eight tornadoes occurred from one supercell across these areas,
including one anticyclonic tornado. The damage survey indicated
there were 4 strong tornadoes (two EF-3 and two EF-2), and 4
EF-0, weaker tornadoes. Below is a brief summary of each tornado.

...NWS preliminary damage survey for 05/22/16 tornado event...

A large supercell produced multiple tornadoes across parts of
Howard and Glasscock Counties on the evening of May 22, 2016. The
information below is a preliminary damage survey of this storm.
The exact number of tornadoes is unknown at this time and more
information will be added as it becomes available.

.Howard County Tornadoes...

Rating:                 EF-1 to EF-3
Estimated peak winds:   86-150 mph
Fatalities:             0
Injuries:               0

The initial tornado likely crossed I-20 near mile marker 168 and
continued southeast toward Cauble Rd damaging several structures
along its path. This tornado caused the most severe damage across
the area. Other tornadoes will be included in the final survey.

.Glasscock County Tornadoes...

Rating:                 EF-1 to EF-3
Estimated peak wind:    90 to 160 mph
Fatalities:             0
Injuries:               0

The Howard County supercell then moved south into Glasscock County
producing multiple tornadoes from just west of Lees south to
Garden City. Much of the damage occurred along and west of Ranch
Road 33 and in the northwest portions of Garden City. The majority
of the damage was EF-1 and EF-2 with isolated EF-3 damage.

EF scale: The enhanced Fujita scale classifies tornadoes into the
following categories.

EF0...weak......65 to 85 mph
EF1...weak......86 to 110 mph
EF2...strong....111 to 135 mph
EF3...strong....136 to 165 mph
EF4...violent...166 to 200 mph
EF5...violent...>200 mph
