Fire Weather Planning Forecast FOR West Texas/Southeast New Mexico
Nantional Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX
331 AM CST Fri Feb 17 2017

...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM NOON TODAY TO 6 PM CST THIS
EVENING...

.DISCUSSION...

Expect critical fire weather conditions will occur along and either
side of the Pecos river from southern Eddy and Lea counties, to
north of the Terrell County between 17/18Z-18/00Z. 20 foot wind
speeds will likely be 20 to 35 mph sustained in these areas, while
relative humidity drops to around 15 percent. West to northwest
winds will actually be higher farther west over the higher terrain,
especially in the Guadalupe and Davis Mountains, but minimum
afternoon RH/s will likely stay above 15 percent. Near critical
fire weather conditions are expect over the Permian Basin where
minimum RH/s will be 10-15 percent, but wind speeds are not expected
to be strong enough, long enough, for critical conditions. Winds
will diminish this evening with fair recovery expected over the
Permian Basin, and good elsewhere.
