FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR WEST TEXAS/SOUTHEASTERN NEW MEXICO
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MIDLAND/ODESSA TX
203 PM CDT THU MAY 5 2016

.DISCUSSION...

DRY AIR OVER THE REGION WILL RESULT IN POOR RECOVERY AREAWIDE
TONIGHT. SOUTHERLY WINDS WILL INCREASE AREAWIDE FRIDAY, AND BEGIN
TO BRING LOW LEVEL MOISTURE BACK TO THE REGION AND KEEP MINIMUM
AFTERNOON RH/S ABOVE 15 PERCENT EAST OF A SE NM TO BIG BEND LINE
DESPITE ABOVE NORMAL TEMPS. SOME LOCATIONS IN THE GUADALUPES AND SE
NM PLAINS COULD FLIRT WITH CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS,
ESPECIALLY AROUND 07/00Z. ALSO, SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE
POSSIBLE IN AND NEAR THE MARFA PLATEAU, AND DAVIS AND GUADALUPE
MOUNTAINS. DRY LIGHTNING STRIKES AND STRONG GUSTY WINDS WILL BE
POSSIBLE WITH ANY STORMS THAT FORM. SOUTHEASTERLY WINDS WILL
INCREASE INTO FRIDAY EVENING, WHICH COULD ALLOW FOR A WETTING RAIN
IN THESE SAME AREAS FRIDAY NIGHT. THE POSSIBILITY FOR CRITICAL
FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS SATURDAY AFTERNOON OVER THE GUADALUPES AND
SE NM PLAINS WILL HINGE ON WHETHER THESE AREAS RECEIVE RAIN FRIDAY
NIGHT.

FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR WEST TEXAS/SOUTHEASTERN NEW MEXICO
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MIDLAND/ODESSA TX
344 AM CDT WED MAY 4 2016

.DISCUSSION...

A WARMING AND DRYING TREND WILL CONTINUE ACROSS THE AREA OVER THE
NEXT WEEK...WITH LOWEST RH/S EXPECTED ALONG AND WEST OF THE PECOS
RIVER...WHERE GRASSES ARE STILL CURED. WHILE WINDS LOOK TO BE BELOW
CRITICAL LEVELS...THERE IS THE POTENTIAL FRIDAY FOR ISOLATED DRY
THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS THE WEST THAT COULD PRODUCE GUSTY WIND IN
ADDITION TO LIGHTNING. THUNDERSTORM CHANCES SPREAD EAST ACROSS THE
AREA SATURDAY AND SUNDAY...ALONG WITH INCREASING SOUTHERLY WINDS
WHICH COULD YIELD GREATER FIRE WEATHER CONCERNS.

&&

FOR POINT-SPECIFIC FORECASTS PLEASE SEE THE POINT FIRE WEATHER MATRIX
PRODUCT ISSUED BY THE MIDLAND/ODESSA NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OFFICE.
