Fire Weather Planning Forecast FOR West Texas/Southeast New Mexico...UPDATED
Nantional Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX
1019 PM CDT Fri May 26 2017

...FIRE WEATHER WATCH IN EFFECT FROM SATURDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH
SATURDAY EVENING FOR RELATIVE HUMIDITY OF 15% OR LESS, 20 FOOT
WINDS OF 20 MPH OR MORE, AND VERY HIGH TO EXTREME FIRE DANGER FOR
SOUTHEAST NEW MEXICO AND MOST OF CULBERSON COUNTY...

.DISCUSSION...
Unseasonably warm temperatures, low RH, gusty winds, and very high
to extreme Fire Danger will result in critical fire weather conditions
for Southeast New Mexico and parts of West Texas Saturday. Otherwise,
RH recovery overnight and Saturday night will range from poor in the
west to excellent in the east. Fire weather concerns will diminish
Sunday as a cold front ushers in cooler temperatures and increasing
moisture.

Fire Weather Planning Forecast FOR West Texas/Southeast New Mexico
Nantional Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX
304 AM CDT Fri May 26 2017

EVENING FOR RELATIVE HUMIDITY OF 10 PERCENT OR LESS, 20 FOOT WINDS
OF 20 MPH OR MORE, AND VERY HIGH TO EXTREME FIRE DANGER FOR SOUTHEAST
NEW MEXICO AND MOST OF CULBERSON COUNTY...

.DISCUSSION...
Critical fire weather is again expected today across southeast New
Mexico and Culberson County where a Red Flag Warning is in effect.
After poor recovery in the warned areas this morning minimum RHs will
easily fall to below 10 percent as high temperatures climb to 7 to 15
degrees above normal. This along west winds of 15 to 25 mph, except
higher in the Guadalupe Mountains, will result in very high to extreme
fire danger. Any critical fire weather on Saturday will mostly be
confined to the Guadalupe Mountains.

Fire Weather Planning Forecast FOR West Texas/Southeast New Mexico
Nantional Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX
411 AM CDT Thu May 25 2017

...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM CDT /10 AM MDT/ THIS
MORNING TO MIDNIGHT CDT /11 PM MDT/ TONIGHT FOR RELATIVE HUMIDITY
OF 15% OR LESS, 20 FT WINDS OF 20 MPH OR MORE, AND HIGH TO VERY
HIGH FIRE DANGER FOR SOUTHEAST NEW MEXICO AND MOST OF CULBERSON
COUNTY...

...FIRE WEATHER WATCH IN EFFECT FROM FRIDAY MORNING THROUGH
FRIDAY EVENING FOR RELATIVE HUMIDITY OF 15% OR LESS, 20 FT WINDS
OF 20 MPH OR MORE, AND HIGH TO VERY HIGH FIRE DANGER FOR SOUTHEAST
NEW MEXICO AND MOST OF CULBERSON COUNTY...

.DISCUSSION...

Very hot, dry, and windy conditions today will result in critical
fire weather conditions across the Guadalupe Mtns, SE NM Plains, and
most of Culberson county where RHs will bottom out around 5-7%. 20ft
winds of 25-40 mph are expected across these areas, but elsewhere,
winds will remain below critical levels, precluding additional fire
weather concerns. Recovery will be poor for all but far eastern
portions of the area, with critical fire weather conditions expected
to return Friday across the same areas as hot, dry, and windy
conditions persist. Relief will come on Sunday with a cold front,
increased moisture, and cooler temperatures.
