Fire Weather Planning Forecast FOR West Texas/Southeast New Mexico
Nantional Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX
236 PM CDT Thu Mar 30 2017

...RED FLAG WARNING IS IN EFFECT THIS AFTERNOON AND EARLY EVENING
AND FOR FRIDAY AFTERNOON AND EARLY EVENING FOR THE GUADALUPE MOUNTAINS
FOR LOW HUMIDITY, WINDS GREATER THAN 20 MPH, AND VERY HIGH FIRE DANGER...

RED FLAG WARNING IS IN EFFECT FRIDAY AFTERNOON AND EARLY EVENING FOR
SOUTHEAST NEW MEXICO, THE NORTHWESTERN PERMIAN BASIN, UPPER TRANS PECOS,
DAVIS MOUNTAINS, AND MARFA PLATEAU FOR LOW HUMIDITY, WINDS GREATER THAN
20 MPH, AND VERY HIGH TO EXTREME FIRE DANGER...

.DISCUSSION...
Conditions are coming together for potentially moderate high end
critical fire weather Friday afternoon across the west. Other than
in the mtns the strongest winds will extend from Van Horn into the Upper
Trans Pecos and SE NM where a corridor of 25-35 mph sustained winds are
possible. Along with the winds the magnitude of the dry air is impressive,
a large area of 3% RH is possible. There is some concern about how much
fuels will rebound to the dry side. Currently ERCs are thought to be below
the 90th percentile, but probably above 75th and along the forecast weather
there is moderate significant fire potential.
