Fire Weather Planning Forecast FOR West Texas/Southeast New Mexico
Nantional Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX
222 PM CDT Sat Apr 29 2017

.DISCUSSION...
Despite a cold front moving into the region, westerly winds will
make a comeback near the Rio Grande River in the Big Bend through
late this afternoon. Since RH/s will drop to near 15%, and westerly
winds will increase to at least 15 to 25 mph, a Fire Danger Statement
remains in effect. Otherwise, expect a warming trend Sunday through
Tuesday with min RH/s dropping to 15 percent or less across much
of the region, especially Monday and Tuesday afternoon. Near critical
fire weather conditions will be possible across portions of the
forecast area early next week.

Fire Weather Planning Forecast FOR West Texas/Southeast New Mexico
Nantional Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX
354 AM CDT Sat Apr 29 2017

.DISCUSSION...

Despite a cold front moving into the region, westerly winds will
make a comeback over southwest Texas this afternoon. Since RHs will
drop to 8 to 15%, and westerly winds will increase to at least 15 to
20 mph this afternoon along and west of a Kermit to Big Bend line
this afternoon, a Fire Danger Statement has been issued for these
areas. There may also be isolated dry lightning strikes this
afternoon, especially over the Davis Mountains. There will be an
abrupt change in wind direction in these same areas tonight as a
cold front pushes south through the region. Recovery will be good
areawide Sunday morning, but westerly flow aloft will begin to warm
the region up, and push dry air back over the area.

Fire Weather Planning Forecast FOR West Texas/Southeast New Mexico
Nantional Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX
142 PM CDT Fri Apr 28 2017

.DISCUSSION...
Near critical fire weather conditions are possible this afternoon as
southwest winds increase and min RHs decrease a bit. A cold front is
expected to move south onto the area Saturday however it is somewhat
unclear just how far south this front will push. If the front stalls
across the north, near critical, or even critical, fire weather conditions
will occur Saturday afternoon across portions of the region. However,
if the front pushes south with north/northwest winds through the day,
fire weather concerns will be low. It will be much cooler Saturday
night and Sunday areawide.

Fire Weather Planning Forecast FOR West Texas/Southeast New Mexico
Nantional Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX
415 AM CDT Fri Apr 28 2017

.DISCUSSION...

Near critical fire weather conditions are expected this afternoon
into early evening as gusty southwest winds affect most of the
forecast area today. Minimum afternoon RHs will be 8 to 15% over
southwest texas, but 20 foot wind speeds will generally be 15 to 20
mph sustained at best. Southwest winds of 15 to 30 mph sustained
will affect the Guadalupe Mountains and portions of the SE NM
Plains. However, minimum RHs will mainly stay above 15%. A cold
front will move south onto the area Saturday. Just how far south it
moves will determine whether near critical, or critical, fire
weather conditions will occur Saturday afternoon. It will be much
cooler Saturday night and Sunday areawide.
