Fire Weather Planning Forecast FOR West Texas/Southeast New Mexico
Nantional Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX
407 AM CDT Wed May 24 2017

...FIRE WEATHER WATCH IN EFFECT FROM THURSDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH
THURSDAY EVENING...

.DISCUSSION...

A significant warming and drying trend is underway, with RHs under
15% expected from SE NM to the Big Bend and points west today.
However, winds this afternoon will be marginal at best, precluding
fire weather concerns. Thursday will see temperatures around 10
degrees above normal, and RHs around 5% along/west of the Pecos
River. Strong west winds in the Guadalupe Mtns will result in
critical fire weather conditions there Thursday afternoon/evening.
The critical fire weather conditions look to persist Friday,
perhaps expanding into the SE NM Plains. Lighter winds Saturday
should provide some relief, with a cold front then expected Sunday.

THURSDAY EVENING FOR GUADALUPE MOUNTAINS FOR RH BELOW 10 PERCENT...

Fire Weather Planning Forecast FOR West Texas/Southeast New Mexico
Nantional Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX
254 AM CDT Tue May 23 2017

.DISCUSSION...

A cold front will push through the area today, accompanied by
additional showers/thunderstorms and gusty north to northeast winds.
Much below normal temperatures and RHs 25-55% will preclude fire
weather concerns today. A significant warming/drying trend begins
Wednesday, with well above normal temperatures areawide expected by
Thursday-Saturday. RHs under 15% are expected across the west on
Wednesday, areawide Thursday-Saturday, and increasing west winds
across the Guadalupe Mountains could result in critical fire weather
conditions there by late this week.
