Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX
354 AM CST SAT NOV 21 2015

The much anticipated, strong cold front has arrived and is currently
moving through the I-10 corridor. Pressure rises behind the front
are on the order of 2-3mb/hr. This is leading to winds 25 to 35
mph with gusts near 45 mph in some locations. These winds will
continue before decreasing during the afternoon. Will continue the
Wind Advisory for the area with the day shift likely needing to
delete counties north to south as we go through the morning. The
High Wind Warning for gap winds at Guadalupe Pass also looks good.

Strong CAA will keep temperatures from rising too much this
afternoon. Expect highs to only make it into the 40`s and lower
50`s. Surface high pressure settles over the area tonight leading to
light winds, clear skies, and very cold temperatures. A hard freeze
is likely across most if not all of the CWA tonight. This will be
the first freeze/hard freeze of the season for many so will continue
the Hard Freeze Warning for these locations.

Zonal flow takes over early next week and will lead to temperatures
well above average. Conditions will remain dry across the area until
around midweek. By this time a large upper trough will begin to dig
to our west. Southwesterly flow aloft ahead of this system will
allow low level moisture to return to the area. Showers and
thunderstorms look like a good possibility Wednesday and
Thanksgiving day. Another strong cold front looks to arrive on
Friday. It is still uncertain whether precip will be out of the area
by the time temperatures fall below freezing Friday night. Continue
to monitor the forecast through the upcoming travel week as changes
are likely.
