Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX
1224 PM CDT SAT JUL 30 2016

.DISCUSSION...

Please see the 18Z aviation discussion below.

.AVIATION...

VFR conditions will prevail through the forecast period. Winds
will remain elevated out of the southeast, with gusts up to
18-20KT possible this afternoon and early evening, particularly
for INK, MAF, FST, and PEQ. The best chance for storms is south
of area terminals, though it is not out of the question for TSRA
to affect FST this afternoon/evening. However, probability is
too low to include mention at this time.

.PREV DISCUSSION... /issued 315 AM CDT SAT JUL 30 2016/

DISCUSSION...
Upper ridge axis located over the western U.S. will shift east early
next week with a 594 high becoming centered over TX. Later in the
week a West Coast trough will displace the ridge somewhat to the
east but not dislodge it.

Expect little change in the day to day wx pattern... leaning toward
persistence for temps today. Should see a slow increase in temps
over the next few days with highs in the 100s becoming more common
by Tuesday. Overnight lows around 70 for much of the area... Marfa
actually fell into the 50s Friday morning.

Did have storms across the southern CWA yesterday that held down
temps along the Rio Grande. Some overnight storms moved down across
the South Plains but these died out before reaching the CWA. With S
to SE surface flow low level moisture will remain elevated with
dewpts into the 60s. As far as precip chances today model qpf
develops precip along the Rio Grande up to the Davis mtns again
today... with rain more just along the Rio Grande tonight. On
Sunday the western CWA/higher elevations look to have best chance of
rainfall with that trend continuing into next week.
