FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR TEXAS
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE LUBBOCK TX
458 AM CDT SUN APR 26 2015

.DISCUSSION...
DRY AND GUSTY SOUTHERLY WINDS WILL DEVELOP ONCE AGAIN TODAY FOR
AREAS ON THE CAP-ROCK...HOWEVER TEMPERATURES TODAY WILL NOT BE
AS WARM AS YESTERDAY. IN ADDITION...THE VEGETATIVE GREENUP WILL
CONTINUE IN FULL-SWING FOR MOST OF THE AREA...MITIGATING MORE
SERIOUS FIRE DANGER CONCERNS. LATER TODAY...A DRY-LINE DEVELOPING
OVER THE ROLLING PLAINS WILL INTERACT WITH A STATIONARY FRONT
ACROSS THE EXTREME SOUTHERN PANHANDLE AS WELL AS INCREASING SOUTHWEST
FLOW ALOFT TO GENERATE A CHANCE FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS
THE ROLLING PLAINS. THIS ALSO MAY LEAD TO HIGH-BASED MOSTLY DRY
THUNDERSTORMS ON THE CAP-ROCK WITH LOCALLY STRONG OUTFLOW WIND
GUSTS. ON MONDAY A CLOSED UPPER LOW WILL SWING EAST ACROSS THE AREA.
A COLD FRONT PASSING EARLY IN THE DAY WILL LEAD TO GUSTY NORTHEAST
BREEZES WHILE SHOWER AND THUNDER CHANCES WILL INCREASE. COOLER
SHOWERY CONDITIONS WILL CONTINUE INTO TUESDAY BEFORE DRYING AND
GRADUAL WARMING KICKS IN WEDNESDAY.

FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR TEXAS
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE LUBBOCK TX
454 AM CDT SAT APR 25 2015

.DISCUSSION...
GUSTY SOUTHWEST WINDS TODAY WILL COMBINE WITH DRY AND MILD CONDITIONS
TO PRODUCE ELEVATED FIRE DANGER CONCERNS ACROSS THE EXTREME SOUTHWEST
TEXAS PANHANDLE AND NORTHWESTERN SOUTH PLAINS. FIRE SPREAD WILL STILL
BE POSSIBLE IN THIS AREA WHERE LOCALIZED STANDS OF CURED FUELS HAVE
NOT BEEN FULLY MITIGATED BY THE STRONG SEASONAL VEGETATIVE GREENING
UNDERWAY JUST TO THE SOUTH AND EAST. SUNDAY WILL REMAIN MILD AND
BREEZY...WHILE ELEVATED THUNDER CHANCES WILL IMPROVE LATE IN THE DAY
WITH THE APPROACH OF A CLOSED UPPER LOW FROM THE WEST. MONDAY AND
TUESDAY WILL SEE COOLER TEMPERATURES AND A CHANCE FOR WETTING RAIN.

FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR TEXAS
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE LUBBOCK TX
457 AM CDT FRI APR 24 2015

.DISCUSSION...
STRONG SOUTHWEST WINDS WILL DEVELOP TODAY AS AN UPPER LEVEL LOW
PRESSURE TROUGH ALONG THE ARIZONA AND NEW MEXICO BORDER THIS MORNING
MOVES INTO WESTERN KANSAS LATE IN THE DAY. DRY AND WARM CONDITIONS
ALSO WILL PREVAIL LEADING TO ELEVATED FIRE DANGER. PREVIOUS RAINFALL
AND THE SIGNIFICANT GREENING SO FAR THIS SPRING SHOULD MITIGATE MORE
EXTREME FIRE DANGER TO A LARGE EXTENT...ALTHOUGH WIND SPEEDS NEAR 30
MPH WITH GUSTS AROUND 50 MPH ARE ENOUGH TO CAUSE CONCERN FOR ANY
LINGERING CURED AREAS OF GRASS OR FINE FUEL...ESPECIALLY ACROSS THE
EXTREME SOUTHWEST PANHANDLE WHICH HAS NOT RECEIVED QUITE AS MUCH RAIN
OF LATE. DRY...BREEZY...AND MILD CONDITIONS WILL REMAIN SATURDAY
ALTHOUGH WITH WIND SPEEDS LIGHTER THAN TODAY. SUNDAY AS WELL WILL
REMAIN DRY AND MILD. RAIN CHANCES WILL IMPROVE EARLY NEXT WEEK.

FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR TEXAS
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE LUBBOCK TX
320 PM CDT THU APR 23 2015

.DISCUSSION...
FOLLOWING SLIGHT CHANCES FOR THUNDERSTORMS LATE TONIGHT
MAINLY OFF THE CAPROCK...WINDY AND DRY CONDITIONS WILL DEVELOP
AREA WIDE ON FRIDAY.

LATEST THINKING IS THAT LOW ERC VALUES EVEN IN DRIER AREAS SUCH AS
THE SOUTHWEST PANHANDLE WILL MITIGATE FRIDAY`S WILDFIRE THREAT TO SMALL
AREAS WHICH APPEARS INSUFFICIENT FOR A FIRE WEATHER WATCH. STILL...A
RANGELAND FIRE DANGER STATEMENT MAY BE WARRANTED AS THERE REMAIN SOME
STANDS OF OLD FUELS MAINLY IN CRP LAND. TWENTY FOOT WINDS BY FRIDAY
AFTERNOON WILL RISE TO 25 TO 30 MPH AS HUMIDITIES FALL INTO THE LOWER
TEENS.

THEREAFTER...EXPECT DRY...BREEZY AND SEASONABLY MILD CONDITIONS
THIS WEEKEND BEFORE A COOLER AND WETTER PATTERN DEVELOPS LATE
SUNDAY INTO EARLY NEXT WEEK.
