FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR THE SOUTH PLAINS AREA
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE LUBBOCK TX
630 AM CST FRI FEB 12 2016

.DISCUSSION...
DRY CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED TODAY WITH A NORTH WIND UNDER 10 MPH
EXPECTED...AND THIS WILL HELP TO LIMIT THE FIRE DANGER SOMEWHAT.
WIND WILL RETURN TO THE SOUTH TO SOUTHWEST ON SATURDAY WHICH COULD
HELP PULL IN SOME LOW-LEVEL MOISTURE TO IMPROVE OVERNIGHT FUEL
MOISTURE RECOVERY OVER THE EASTERN HALF OF SOUTH PLAINS AND ALL OF
THE ROLLING PLAINS. HOWEVER...WIND SPEEDS WILL INCREASE INTO THE
10 TO 20 MPH RANGE ON SATURDAY AS WELL.

FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR THE SOUTH PLAINS AREA
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE LUBBOCK TX
443 AM CST THU FEB 11 2016

.DISCUSSION...
AN EARLY DAY COLD FRONT WILL BRING A NORTHERLY WIND SHIFT ALONG
WITH COOLER WEATHER TO THE SOUTH PLAINS REGION TODAY. EVEN
SO...AFTERNOON READINGS WILL STILL BE ABOVE AVERAGE WITH HIGHS IN
THE 60S. WINDS WILL TURN NORTHEASTERLY THIS AFTERNOON BUT WILL
WEAKEN WITH TIME. THE LIGHT WINDS WILL KEEP THE FIRE DANGER ON THE
LOW SIDE...THOUGH AFTERNOON HUMIDITIES WILL DIP INTO THE TEENS ON
THE CAPROCK WITH 20S IN THE ROLLING PLAINS. WINDS WILL BRIEFLY
SWING AROUND TO THE SOUTH TONIGHT...BUT ANOTHER WEAK FRONT WILL
BRING AN EASTERLY WIND SHIFT ON FRIDAY. MODEST IMPROVEMENTS IN
LOW-LEVEL MOISTURE WILL FOLLOW THIS WEEKEND...BUT THE PROSPECTS
FOR MEANINGFUL PRECIPITATION /ASIDE FROM PERHAPS A FEW POCKETS OF
DRIZZLE/ ARE NOT IN THE CARDS FOR THE COMING WEEK.

FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR THE SOUTH PLAINS AREA
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE LUBBOCK TX
421 AM CST WED FEB 10 2016

...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM NOON TODAY TO 7 PM CST THIS
EVENING FOR THE NORTHERN ROLLING PLAINS AND NORTHERN SOUTH PLAINS...

.DISCUSSION...
CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED TO DEVELOP ACROSS
THE RED FLAG WARNING AREA THIS AFTERNOON AS STRONGER WIND SPEEDS
SHIFT FROM ACROSS THE TEXAS PANHANDLE INTO THE WARNING AREA. THERE IS
UNCERTAINTY ON HOW FAR WEST THE STRONGER WIND SPEEDS WILL PUSH BUT
ENOUGH CONFIDENCE EXISTS IN THE PATH OF STRONGER WINDS SHIFTING EAST
THROUGH THE DAY TO LIMIT THE RED FLAG WARNING TO THE CURRENT AREA.
TIME FRAME FOR STRONGEST WIND SPEEDS WILL ALSO BE FAIRLY NARROW WITH
THE 1 PM TO 5 PM WINDOW EXPECTED TO HAVE STRONGEST SUSTAINED SPEEDS.
WEST WIND WILL HELP TO DRY THE ATMOSPHERE OUT RESULTING IN MINIMUM
RH VALUES ACROSS THE PLANNING AREA TO BE BETWEEN 11 TO 15 PERCENT...
AND FUELS REMAIN DRY AND CURED ACROSS THE REGION. ELEVATED FIRE
DANGER WILL EXIST OUTSIDE OF THE RED FLAG WARNING AREA. WIND SPEEDS
WILL QUICKLY DECREASE AFTER SUNSET WITH VERY SLOW RH RECOVERY THANKS
TO DRY AIR ACROSS THE REGION. IF ANY FIRES DO START...A WEAK COLD
FRONT WILL PUSH ACROSS THE REGION AFTER MIDNIGHT WEDNESDAY MORNING
SHIFTING THE WIND TO THE NORTH ALONG A FRIONA TO CHILDRESS LINE
AROUND 3 AM...NEAR LUBBOCK BY 6 AM...AND SOUTH OF THE PLANNING AREA
BY 8 AM. NORTH WIND AROUND 10 MPH CAN BE EXPECTED BEHIND THE FRONT.
