FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR THE SOUTH PLAINS REGION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE LUBBOCK TX
608 AM CDT FRI MAR 27 2015

.DISCUSSION...
IT WILL BE WARM AND DRY FRIDAY AND SATURDAY WITH AFTERNOON
RELATIVE HUMIDITY VALUES DROPPING BELOW 15 PERCENT ACROSS MOST OF
THE SOUTH PLAINS AREA. HOWEVER...WIND SPEEDS WILL BE RELATIVELY
LIGHT THROUGH THIS PERIOD. ON SUNDAY...A COLD FRONT WILL PASS
THROUGH THE AREA FROM NORTH TO SOUTH. WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO
REMAIN LIGHT SOUTH OF THE FRONT...LIMITING THE FIRE DANGER DESPITE
VERY WARM TEMPERATURES. AS THE FRONT MOVES THROUGH...THE FIRE
DANGER MAY INCREASE FOR A PERIOD DEPENDING ON THE SPECIFIC AREA
AND TIME OF DAY IN WHICH THE FRONTAL PASSAGE OCCURS...WHICH IS
STILL UNCLEAR AT THIS TIME. COOLER TEMPERATURES AND INCREASING
MOISTURE LEVELS BEHIND THE FRONT SHOULD LIMIT THIS THREAT THOUGH.

FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR THE SOUTH PLAINS REGION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE LUBBOCK TX
330 PM CDT THU MAR 26 2015

.DISCUSSION...
OVERNIGHT RELATIVE HUMIDITY VALUES WILL RECOVER IN THE 40-50
PERCENT RANGE. 20-FOOT SOUTH TO SOUTHWEST WIND SPEEDS BELOW 10 MPH
WILL VEER A BIT TO THE WEST NORTHWEST FRIDAY MORNING...BUT
REMAINING BELOW 10 MPH. TEMPERATURES WILL WARM BACK UP TO ABOVE
NORMAL FRIDAY THUS RESULTING RELATIVE HUMIDITY VALUES DIPPING INTO
THE 10-25 PERCENT RANGE BY PEAK HEATING. HOWEVER GIVEN WIND SPEEDS
REMAINING WELL BELOW CRITICAL THRESHOLDS...FIRE WEATHER CONCERNS
WILL BE LOW. SATURDAY WILL WARM UP FURTHER LEADING TO HUMIDITIES
ONCE AGAIN FALLING INTO THE 10-20 PERCENT RANGE. NONETHELESS..20-FOOT
SOUTH TO SOUTHEAST WIND SPEEDS AROUND 10 MPH WILL AID TO EAST FIRE
WEATHER CONCERNS.

WEAK WESTERLY WINDS OF ONLY 10-15 MPH AT THE 20-FT LEVEL. WINDY
CONDITIONS WILL RESUME BY SUNSET FOLLOWING A STRONG COLD
FRONT...HOWEVER HUMIDITIES WILL RECOVER PROMPTLY BEHIND THIS

OCCUR /BELOW 15 MPH/. WITH HUMIDITIES REMAINING ABOVE 15 PERCENT...
FIRE WEATHER CONCERNS WILL BE LOW. TEMPERATURES WILL RETURN TO
ABOVE NORMAL ON FRIDAY /70S/ SO PERHAPS A FEW LOCATIONS COULD FALL
TO/NEAR 15 PERCENT PARTICULARLY ACROSS THE SOUTHWEST SOUTH PLAINS.

FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR THE SOUTH PLAINS REGION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE LUBBOCK TX
357 PM CDT WED MAR 25 2015

...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM CDT THIS EVENING...

.DISCUSSION...
ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES THIS AFTERNOON HAVE RESULTED IN RELATIVE
HUMIDITY VALUES DROPPING BELOW 15 PERCENT...COUPLED WITH W-SW
WIND SPEEDS THAT HAVE RECENTLY INCREASED INTO THE 15-25 MPH RANGE
LATE THIS AFTERNOON...HAVE RESULTED IN PORTIONS OF THE ROLLING
PLAINS AND SOUTHERN SOUTH PLAINS TICKING OFF REDFLAG MINUTES
EQUATING LESS THAN AN HOUR THUS FAR. A REDFLAG WARNING IS IN
EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM THIS EVENING. THESE REDFLAG CONDITIONS WILL
PERSIST UNTIL THIS EVENING...WHEN A RATHER BREEZY COLD FRONT
IMPINGES ON THE AREA...RESULTING IN NORTH 20-FOOT WIND SPEEDS
INCREASING TO 25-35 MPH. A WIND ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FROM 7 PM
THIS EVENING TO 4 AM THURSDAY MORNING. HOWEVER...HUMIDITIES WILL
INCREASE INTO THE 65-85 PERCENT RANGE FOLLOWING THE COLD FRONTAL
PASSAGE WHICH WILL AID IN MITIGATING FIRE WEATHER CONCERNS.
FURTHERMORE...COULD SEE ISOLATED LIGHT RAIN SHOWERS
DEVELOP...ALONG WITH AREAS OF BLOWING DUST PARTICULARLY ON THE
CAPROCK WHICH COULD CAUSE VISIBILITY OBSTRUCTIONS. TEMPS TOMORROW
WILL FALL TO SLIGHTLY BELOW NORMAL DUE TO THE COLD AIR ADVECTION
USHERED IN BY THIS EVENING/S COLD FRONT...AND A NOTABLE DECLINE IN
20-FOOT NORTH WIND SPEEDS WILL OCCUR /BELOW 15 MPH/. WITH
HUMIDITIES REMAINING ABOVE 15 PERCENT...FIRE WEATHER CONCERNS WILL
BE LOW. TEMPERATURES WILL RETURN TO ABOVE NORMAL ON FRIDAY /70S/
SO PERHAPS A FEW LOCATIONS COULD FALL TO/NEAR 15 PERCENT
PARTICULARLY ACROSS THE SOUTHWEST SOUTH PLAINS. HOWEVER...20-FOOT
WEST TO SOUTHWEST WINDS SPEEDS AROUND 10 MPH WILL EASE FIRE
WEATHER CONCERNS.

BELOW 15 PERCENT...WIND SPEEDS IN EXCESS OF 20 MPH AT THE 20 FOOT
LEVEL...AND A HIGH FIRE DANGER...

.DISCUSSION...
VERY WARM TEMPERATURES AND DRY CONDITIONS AHEAD OF A COLD FRONT

COMBINE TO CREATE AFTERNOON RELATIVE HUMIDITY VALUES AROUND 10
PERCENT IN THE CRITICAL AREA. ELSEWHERE...ELEVATED FIRE WEATHER
CONDITIONS WILL EXIST WITH SLIGHTLY LOWER WIND SPEEDS. A STRONG
COLD FRONT WILL MOVE THROUGH THIS EVENING BRINGING AN ABRUPT WIND
SHIFT TO THE NORTH AT 25 TO 30 MPH.

BEHIND THE COLD FRONT BUT MUCH DRIER AIR WILL ACCOMPANY THE
COOLER TEMPERATURES. AFTERNOON RELATIVE HUMIDITY VALUES WILL BE
