FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR THE SOUTH PLAINS REGION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE LUBBOCK TX
402 PM CDT WED APR 1 2015

...FIRE WEATHER WATCH IN EFFECT FROM THURSDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH
THURSDAY EVENING FOR THE FAR SOUTHERN TEXAS PANHANDLE...SOUTH PLAINS
AND ROLLING PLAINS FOR RELATIVE HUMIDITIES BELOW 15 PERCENT...WIND
SPEEDS IN EXCESS OF 20 MPH AT THE 20 FOOT LEVEL...AND A HIGH FIRE
DANGER...

.DISCUSSION...
PERIODS OF ELEVATED FIRE WEATHER CONCERNS WILL CONTINUE THIS AFTERNOON
AND EARLY EVENING MAINLY ALONG AND WEST OF A TULIA TO PLAINS LINE
WHERE RELATIVE HUMIDITIES HAVE DROPPED INTO THE LOW TO MID TEENS.
CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER WILL LIKELY ENSUE ACROSS MUCH OF THE REGION
THURSDAY AFTERNOON...MOST NOTABLY ACROSS THE SOUTHERN SOUTH PLAINS
WHERE SOUTHWEST WINDS WILL INCREASE TO 20-25 MPH. TEMPERATURES IN THE
80S TO LOW 90S IN SPOTS WILL PRODUCE RELATIVE HUMIDITY VALUES IN THE
SINGLE DIGITS TO LOW TEENS AREAWIDE...BUT A LINGERING FRONTAL BOUNDARY
IN VICINITY OF THE FAR SOUTHEASTERN PANHANDLE MAY KEEP WIND SPEEDS CLOSE
TO OR JUST BELOW 15 MPH. WILL MONITOR PROGRESS OF THIS FEATURE AND TAILOR
UPGRADE TO A WARNING BASED ON THAT. A FRONTAL BOUNDARY MOVING THROUGH EARLY
FRIDAY WILL THEN ALLEVIATE CONDITIONS INTO EARLY THIS WEEKEND.

FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR THE SOUTH PLAINS REGION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE LUBBOCK TX
604 AM CDT TUE MAR 31 2015

.DISCUSSION...
WINDS WILL BE ON THE LIGHT SIDE TODAY AS A WEAK SURFACE LOW
RESIDES IN THE AREA. TEMPERATURES WILL PEAK WELL INTO THE
80S...WHICH WILL DRIVE RH VALUES DOWN INTO TEENS AND 20S. ISOLATED
TO SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED TO DEVELOP THIS AFTERNOON
AND EVENING. A FEW OF THESE STORMS COULD BE STRONG OFF THE
CAPROCK AND PRODUCE LOCALIZED WETTING RAIN. FURTHER WEST IN THE
DRIER AIR...GUSTY AND ERRATIC WINDS AND DRY LIGHTNING WILL BE
POSSIBLE WITH ANY HIGH-BASED STORMS THAT DEVELOP. SOUTH TO
SOUTHWEST WINDS WILL INCREASE ON WEDNESDAY AS A DRYLINE SETS UP
NEAR THE EDGE OF THE CAPROCK. WEST OF THE DRYLINE ELEVATED TO
BRIEFLY CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER WILL BE POSSIBLE WEDNESDAY
AFTERNOON. THE HEIGHTENED FIRE DANGER WILL EXPAND TO ENCOMPASS
MOST OF THE AREA ON THURSDAY BEFORE A COLD FRONT MOVES THROUGH
EARLY FRIDAY AND PROVIDES A TEMPORARY REPRIEVE.
