Fire Weather Planning Forecast for New Mexico and Far West Texas
National Weather Service El Paso TX/Santa Teresa NM
155 PM MDT Sun Mar 26 2017

...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM MDT THIS EVENING...

.DISCUSSION...
An active weather pattern for the upcoming week with breezy to
windy conditions almost daily. There will likely be some
critical/near critical fire weather days as moisture moves in and
out with each passing system. Tuesday and Friday look like the
windiest days but also the days when moisture will be entering the
region. Right now think best chance for critical conditions
Tuesday are the lowlands east of the Rio Grande but humidity
levels may remain a bit too high so will hold off on watch for
now. Light precipitation Tuesday and Fri/Sat will mainly be
confined to area mountains. Temperatures will remain within about
5 degrees of above or below normal.

National Weather Service El Paso TX/Santa Teresa NM
648 AM MDT Sun Mar 26 2017

...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 1 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 8 PM
MDT THIS EVENING...

.DISCUSSION...
Strongest winds today look like they will be focused over Far West
Texas into southern Otero County, though dry conditions with RH
values below 15 percent will be widespread across the remainder of
the lowlands. Expect continued breezy to windy weather through
the week, with respites on Monday and Thursday. A Pacific upper
low will affect the area Tuesday, with higher RH values and precip
chances for the Gila and the Sacramentos, and stronger winds over
the lowlands. A similar system is likely to affect the area in
the Friday to Saturday time frame.

Fire Weather Planning Forecast for New Mexico and Far West Texas
National Weather Service El Paso TX/Santa Teresa NM
213 PM MDT Sat Mar 25 2017

...FIRE WEATHER WATCH IN EFFECT FROM SUNDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH
SUNDAY EVENING...

.DISCUSSION...
Active weather pattern will continue through the upcoming week with
plenty of wind and near red flag conditions the next few days.
Upper trough will move over region tomorrow and bring gusty west
winds to the region with relative humidities in the lower to mid
teens. Strongest winds still look like they will remain over
southern half of the area where I`ll keep the watch in effect as it
continues to look like a marginal situation. Winds look just a
little lighter on Monday but increase again Tuesday as a strong
upper low moves into the southern Rockies. Could see some area,
especially east experience some critical conditions Tuesday. As this
upper low moves across, cooler temperatures and better moisture move
into the area as winds remain strong. Some light precipitation is
possible Wednesday into Thursday and again next weekend.

Fire Weather Planning Forecast for New Mexico and Far West Texas
National Weather Service El Paso TX/Santa Teresa NM
650 AM MDT Sat Mar 25 2017

...FIRE WEATHER WATCH IN EFFECT FROM SUNDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH
SUNDAY EVENING...

.DISCUSSION...
Breezy to windy with critical or near critical conditions almost
daily through the forecast period. Temperatures will start to
rebound today with winds starting out light but increasing out
of the west to southwest during the afternoon to 15 to 20 mph with
strongest winds west. At this time it looks like the 3 hour
criteria will not be met but an hour or two of critical conditions
are possible west of divide late in the afternoon. West-northwest
winds will increase Sunday, especially southern half of area and
this day may have better chance of reaching 3 hours of critical
conditions, so a fire weather watch has been issued. Another
strong trough is expected Tuesday which could
result in greatest chance for widespread critical conditions
developing. Small chance for precipitation remains Tuesday into
Wednesday, mainly over area mountains with temperatures fluctuating from
5 degrees above to 5 degrees below normal.

Fire Weather Planning Forecast for New Mexico and Far West Texas
National Weather Service El Paso TX/Santa Teresa NM
150 PM MDT Fri Mar 24 2017

.DISCUSSION...
Breezy to windy with critical or near critical conditions almost
daily through the forecast period. Temperatures will start to
rebound on Saturday with winds starting out light but increasing out
of the west to southwest during the afternoon to around 20 mph with
strongest winds west. At this time it looks like the 3 hour
criteria will not be met but an hour or two of critical conditions
are possible west of divide late in the afternoon. West-northwest
winds will increase Sunday, especially southern half of area and
this day may have better chance of reaching 3 hours of critical
conditions. Another strong trough is expected Tuesday which could
result in greatest chance for widespread critical conditions
developing. Small chance for moisture over area mountains and far
eastern zones remains in place for later half of next week with
temperatures fluctuating from 5 degrees above to 5 degrees below
normal.

Fire Weather Planning Forecast for New Mexico and Far West Texas
National Weather Service El Paso TX/Santa Teresa NM
702 AM MDT Fri Mar 24 2017

...WIND ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON MDT TODAY...

.DISCUSSION...
West to southwest winds will bring seasonably warm dry weather
across New Mexico and west Texas today through Monday with
temperatures near or above normal. Upper level disturbances will
also result in occasionally breezy to windy conditions through
the weekend. Near red flag conditions are possible through
Sunday. The strongest winds today will occur into the early
afternoon but start to decrease, so a couple of hours of
red flag conditions are possible over the lowlands as relative
humidities fall into the teens before winds decrease. Saturday,
winds will increase to around 20 mph west of the divide
and result in a couple more hours of critical/near critical
conditions developing. A slow moving low pressure system may cause
increasing winds along with a few rain showers and even high
mountain snows Tuesday through Wednesday.
