Fire Weather Planning Forecast for New Mexico and Far West Texas
National Weather Service El Paso TX/Santa Teresa NM
150 PM MDT Fri Mar 24 2017

.DISCUSSION...
Breezy to windy with critical or near critical conditions almost
daily through the forecast period. Temperatures will start to
rebound on Saturday with winds starting out light but increasing out
of the west to southwest during the afternoon to around 20 mph with
strongest winds west. At this time it looks like the 3 hour
criteria will not be met but an hour or two of critical conditions
are possible west of divide late in the afternoon. West-northwest
winds will increase Sunday, especially southern half of area and
this day may have better chance of reaching 3 hours of critical
conditions. Another strong trough is expected Tuesday which could
result in greatest chance for widespread critical conditions
developing. Small chance for moisture over area mountains and far
eastern zones remains in place for later half of next week with
temperatures fluctuating from 5 degrees above to 5 degrees below
normal.

Fire Weather Planning Forecast for New Mexico and Far West Texas
National Weather Service El Paso TX/Santa Teresa NM
702 AM MDT Fri Mar 24 2017

...WIND ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON MDT TODAY...

.DISCUSSION...
West to southwest winds will bring seasonably warm dry weather
across New Mexico and west Texas today through Monday with
temperatures near or above normal. Upper level disturbances will
also result in occasionally breezy to windy conditions through
the weekend. Near red flag conditions are possible through
Sunday. The strongest winds today will occur into the early
afternoon but start to decrease, so a couple of hours of
red flag conditions are possible over the lowlands as relative
humidities fall into the teens before winds decrease. Saturday,
winds will increase to around 20 mph west of the divide
and result in a couple more hours of critical/near critical
conditions developing. A slow moving low pressure system may cause
increasing winds along with a few rain showers and even high
mountain snows Tuesday through Wednesday.

Fire Weather Planning Forecast for New Mexico and Far West Texas
National Weather Service El Paso TX/Santa Teresa NM
649 AM MDT Thu Mar 23 2017

...WIND ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM NOON TODAY TO 8 PM MDT THIS
EVENING...
...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM NOON TODAY TO 8 PM MDT THIS
EVENING...
...HIGH WIND WARNING IN EFFECT FROM NOON TODAY TO MIDNIGHT MDT
TONIGHT...

.DISCUSSION...
A low pressure system with a cold front will move across New
Mexico and west Texas today bringing windy conditions with blowing
dust across the Borderland along with cooler temperatures. Red
flag conditions are expected over eastern zones, and although the
Sacramento Mountains are not in the warning, some areas on the
eastern slopes may experience Red Flag conditions due to the
drying downslope winds, especially before some low level moisture
moves in. Westerly winds will bring seasonally warm dry weather
this weekend and Monday but a passing upper disturbance will
produce breezy to marginally windy conditions Saturday and Sunday.
Near Red Flag conditions are expected Friday through Sunday.
Another low pressure system may bring breezy to windy weather
along with a few rain showers Tuesday and Wednesday.

Fire Weather Planning Forecast for New Mexico and Far West Texas
National Weather Service El Paso TX/Santa Teresa NM
642 AM MDT Wed Mar 22 2017

...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 2 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 7 PM
MDT THIS EVENING...
...FIRE WEATHER WATCH IN EFFECT FROM THURSDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH
THURSDAY EVENING...

.DISCUSSION...
Deep southwesterly flow will keep the Southwestern U.S. dry and
warm through mid-week with high temperatures likely at record
levels again today. The airmass is quite dry and afternoons will
become slightly breezy at times. Western areas should see elevated
fire weather conditions today so a RFW has been issued for
FWZ110-111 for this afternoon...and a watch is in effect for
eastern areas for Thursday. A large upper trough and associated
Pacific cold front will move into southern New Mexico and far west
Texas Thursday resulting in very strong westerly winds and
lowland blowing dust. RED FLAG conditions are looking likely
Thursday afternoon over the lowlands mainly east of the
Continental Divide and south of Sierra county. There also will be
a slight risk for some rain showers over the mountains and
western lowlands. Cooler weather will follow Thursday and Friday.
A typical spring weather pattern is forecast through next week
with dry and windy conditions.
