Fire Weather Planning Forecast for New Mexico and Far West Texas
National Weather Service El Paso TX/Santa Teresa NM
656 AM MST Mon Feb 27 2017

...HIGH WIND WATCH IN EFFECT FROM TUESDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH
TUESDAY EVENING...

.DISCUSSION...
The region sits between Pacific storms today and will see a minor
break from the strong winds, however it will continue to be
breezy for most areas this afternoon with some areas east of the
Rio Grande coming close to critical conditions. Tuesday, the next
Pacific storm system moves across the area bringing very windy
conditions. Increased moisture with the system will keep min RHs
just above critical thresholds. As a result all zones will remain
just outside Reg Flag warning criteria Tuesday but with the
environment very dry and conditions very windy fire weather
conditions will be elevated and very near critical. Wednesday and
into the latter part of next week a period of calm, warm and dry
weather settles in over southern New Mexico and west Texas.

Fire Weather Planning Forecast for New Mexico and Far West Texas
National Weather Service El Paso TX/Santa Teresa NM
210 PM MST Sun Feb 26 2017

...WIND ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM MST THIS EVENING...
...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 5 PM MST THIS AFTERNOON...

.DISCUSSION...
Windy and dry weather returned to the region today. Red Flag warning
remains in effect until this evening for fire weather zones 055,
056 and 112. Monday the region sees a break from the winds as the
next Pacific storm system begins to appraoch the area from the
east. Tuesday the Pacific storm system moves across the area
bringing very windy conditions. Increased moisture will keep min
RHs just above critical thresholds. As a result all zones will
remain just outside Reg Flag warning criteria Tuesday but with the
environment very dry and conditions very windy fire danger will
be high, if not very high. Wednesday and into the latter part of
next week a period of calm, warm and dry weather settles in over
southern New Mexico and west Texas.

Fire Weather Planning Forecast for New Mexico and Far West Texas
National Weather Service El Paso TX/Santa Teresa NM
157 PM MST Sat Feb 25 2017

...WIND ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 1 PM TO 7 PM MST SUNDAY...
...FIRE WEATHER WATCH IN EFFECT SUNDAY AFTERNOON...

.DISCUSSION...
Windy and dry weather returns to the region Sunday. As a result
critical fire weather conditions will also return to the eastern
fire weather zones. Both winds and min RH`s will reach Red Flag
conditions. Thus, a Fire Weather Watch has been issued for zones
055, 056 and 112 and will be upgraded to a Red Flag warning tomorrow
morning for Sunday afternoon/evening for these same zones (unless
something dramatically changes in the models). Tomorrow all other
fire weather zones will reach near Red Flag Warning conditions but
not cross the thresholds that would warrant a full blown warning.
Next Tuesday into Wednesday brings more winds with min RH`s above
critical thresholds followed by a period of calm, warm and dry
weather.

Fire Weather Planning Forecast for New Mexico and Far West Texas
National Weather Service El Paso TX/Santa Teresa NM
649 AM MST Sat Feb 25 2017

.DISCUSSION...
All zones get a short, and minor, break today from critical fire
weather conditions today as winds lessen, but remain breezy.
A very dry air mass will still be in place, min RHs in the low
and mid single-digits will be common. Some locations may see brief
Red Flag conditions...but not of a duration or areal coverage to
warrant issuance of a warning. Thus somewhat "elevated" conditions
remain for today. Critical Fire Weather conditions return to the
region Sunday as the area is hit with another day of very windy
and continued dry weather. This will result in both winds and min
RH`s reaching Red Flag Warning thresholds. A Fire Weather Watch or
even a Red Flag Warning is expected. Next week brings more winds
with min RH`s above critical thresholds.

&&

...Percentages shown in the sky/weather portion reflect
sky cover amount...

...Mean elevations used to obtain mixing heights as follows:
Zone 110 - Reserve (5900 ft)
Zone 111 - Deming (4300 ft)
Zone 112 - Las Cruces(3900 ft)
Zone 113 - Ruidoso (6900 ft)

Ventilation categories are determined by criteria established
by the state of New Mexico.
