FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR NEW MEXICO
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE EL PASO TX/SANTA TERESA NM
654 AM MDT MON AUG 18 2014

.DISCUSSION...
NORTHEAST FLOW ALOFT AROUND AN AREA OF HIGH PRESSURE OVER
NORTHERN NEW MEXICO WILL PUSH MONSOON MOISTURE SOUTHWESTWARD
TOWARDS EASTERN ARIZONA. THIS WILL DIMINISH THE CHANCE FOR
SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS EAST OF THE CONTINENTAL DIVIDE THIS
AFTERNOON...WHILE AREAS WEST OF THE DIVIDE WILL AGAIN HAVE
SCATTERED AFTERNOON AND EVENING THUNDERSTORMS WITH LOCALLY
HEAVY RAIN. THAT HIGH PRESSURE WILL SHIFT OUT INTO THE PLAINS
TONIGHT AND TUESDAY AS AN UPPER LEVEL TROUGH MOVES INTO
CALIFORNIA. THIS WILL PUSH THE PLUME OF MONSOON MOISTURE BACK
EAST ACROSS NEW MEXICO...WITH INCREASED SHOWER AND THUNDERSTORM
ACTIVITY TUESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY. MINIMUM RH IN THE 25 TO 35
PERCENT RANGE OVER LOWER ELEVATIONS THIS AFTERNOON AND 35 TO 45
PERCENT OVER AREA MOUNTAINS. HUMIDITY WILL INCREASE BY AROUND
10 TO 15 PERCENT TOMORROW AND WEDNESDAY. HAINES INDICES VERY
LOW TO LOW (3 OR 4) OVER MOST OF THE AREA TODAY AND TUESDAY
WITH GENERALLY LIGHT WINDS.
