Fire Weather Planning Forecast for New Mexico and Far West Texas
National Weather Service El Paso TX/Santa Teresa NM
643 AM MDT Thu Mar 30 2017

...FIRE WEATHER WATCH IN EFFECT FROM FRIDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH
FRIDAY EVENING...

.DISCUSSION...
Breezy to marginally windy westerly flow will bring warmer dry
weather to New Mexico and west Texas today with near Red Flag
conditions expected some areas this afternoon. A low pressure
system with a cold front will move slowly across the Borderland
Friday through the weekend. This storm will generate windy
conditions with blowing dust on Friday resulting in critical fire
weather and Red Flag conditions. Winds diminishing with
cooler below normal temperatures occurring Saturday and Sunday. In
addition there will be slight chances for lowland rain showers
and high mountain snows this weekend. Westerly winds will produce
seasonably warm dry weather for most of next week with passing
disturbances causing occasionally breezy to windy conditions. Thus
near Red Flag conditions may develop over some areas Monday and
Tuesday afternoons.

Fire Weather Planning Forecast for New Mexico and Far West Texas
National Weather Service El Paso TX/Santa Teresa NM
202 PM MDT Wed Mar 29 2017

...FIRE WEATHER WATCH IN EFFECT FROM FRIDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH
FRIDAY EVENING...

.DISCUSSION...
As one storm system exits, another will be on it`s heels for the
end of the week. In between on Thursday, expect high temperatures
to get into the mid 70s to around 80 over the lowlands and
relative humidities falling into the 10 percent range. Winds will
gradually increase out of the west to 15 to 20 mph, so near
critical conditions are expected but think the 3 hour criteria
will not be met. Friday will likely be a extreme fire weather day
with humidities again around 10 percent below 7000 feet but winds
will become sustained at 25 to 35 mph with higher gusts by mid to
late afternoon ahead of a cold front. A fire weather watch is in
effect. Cooler conditions with lighter winds over the weekend
before dry and warm weather returns for early next week.

Fire Weather Planning Forecast for New Mexico and Far West Texas
National Weather Service El Paso TX/Santa Teresa NM
714 AM MDT Wed Mar 29 2017

.DISCUSSION...
A low pressure system to the east will bring breezy to windy
conditions and cool below normal temperatures today along with
isolated showers in the lowlands and a few snow showers over the
higher mountains. Winds will gust from 30 to 40 mph this morning
before slowly diminishing in the afternoon. West to southwest
winds will result in warmer dry weather Thursday and Friday.
However a deep low pressure system with a cold front will move
slowly across the region generating windy conditions with blowing
dust on Friday followed by cooler below normal temperatures and a
few rain and mountain snows showers Saturday and Sunday. Winds on
Friday may gust around 50 mph resulting in critical conditions
most locations. Westerly winds will produce warmer dry weather
next Monday and Tuesday.
