Link to Dust Devil Dispatch Heavy Rain and Flooding Likely

Hurricane Dolly made landfall near Brownsville, TX yesterday. The storm has been slowly moving towards the west-northwest. The remnants of this feature are expected to track more northwestward and increase in speed during the next day and a half. By Friday morning, the low pressure system is expected to be south of the Big Bend region in northern Mexico.

As the system nears the area, copious amounts of moisture will filter into the region. The combination of this abundant moisture, upslope flow, and atmospheric lift could result in heavy rainfall across southwest Texas on Friday. Scattered amounts of 1 to 2 inches and isolated amounts of up to 4 inches will be possible.

Runoff from any heavy rain, the variable terrain, and burn scars from recent fires will increase the potential for flash flooding. Therefore, a Flash Flood Watch has been issued for these areas on Friday.
