Near record to record high temperatures today will combine with dry air and gusty westerly winds to produce critical fire weather conditions across portions of southeast New Mexico and west Texas this afternoon and evening. A Red Flag Warning is in effect for locations along and west of an Alpine, Kermit, Hobbs and Tatum line this afternoon and evening. These areas are expected to have wind speeds of 20 mph or greater and minimum relative humidity values less than 15 percent.

Similar conditions are expected to occur over the Guadalupe Mountains and southeast New Mexico plains Wednesday afternoon. Therefore a Fire Weather Watch has been issued for these areas.
