Severe Weather (June 10, 2007) |
 |
| |
 |
A new cold front arrived in Arkansas on June 8th and stalled across the region. The front separated very warm and
moist air to its west from drier conditions farther east. On the 10th,
thunderstorms popped up in the western counties where moisture was most
abundant. |

A front was nearly stationary in Arkansas on
06/10/2007... with dewpoints in the 60s/lower 70s (moist) to the west of
the front, and dewpoints in the upper 50s to mid 60s (not as moist)
farther east. |
| Storms built from western into central sections of the
state as the afternoon progressed. Toward evening, the storms weakened
as they reached eastern Arkansas. |

(Searcy County), with quarter size hail just north of Waldron (Scott
County) and nickel size hail at Mountain Pine (Garland County), Bryant (Saline

 |

The WSR-88D (Doppler Weather Radar) showed storm reflectivities
increasing with height in eastern Nevada County at 711 pm CDT on
06/10/2007. This indicated that precipitation was being suspended aloft
(in cold air) by strong updrafts, which usually increases the likelihood
of large hail. |
 |
Very heavy rain occurred as well, with spotty flash
flooding. Nearly stationary storms near Ico (Grant County) produced over
two inches of rain. Some roads were covered by water in the area. |
| In the picture:
Twenty four hour rainfall through 7 am CDT on 06/11/2007. |
| Other reports included 2.23 inches at Gilbert (Searcy County),
2.00 inches at Greers Ferry Lake (Cleburne County), 1.63 inches at Bluff
City (Nevada County), 1.60 inches at Jasper (Newton County), 1.47 inches at Damascus (Van Buren County),
1.41 inches at Lake Maumelle (Pulaski County) and 1.28
inches at Harrison (Boone County). |
