Severe Weather (June 10, 2007)
 
A front was nearly stationary in Arkansas on 06/10/2007. A new cold front arrived in Arkansas on June 8th and stalled across the region. The front separated very warm and moist air to its west from drier conditions farther east. On the 10th, thunderstorms popped up in the western counties where moisture was most abundant.

Storms built from western into central sections of the state as the afternoon progressed. Toward evening, the storms weakened as they reached eastern Arkansas.

 Strong to damaging winds blew down some corn near Damascus (Van Buren County) on 06/10/2007. Along the way, large hail and damaging winds were reported. Near Damascus (Van Buren County), winds below down some corn...with trees blown over at Quitman (Cleburne County).

Up to golfball size hail was reported around Marshall (Searcy County), with quarter size hail just north of Waldron (Scott County) and nickel size hail at Mountain Pine (Garland County), Bryant (Saline County) and near Ico (Grant County). The WSR-88D (Doppler Weather Radar) showed storm reflectivities increasing with height in eastern Nevada County at 711 pm CDT on 06/10/2007.

This indicated that precipitation was being suspended aloft (in cold air) by strong updrafts, which usually increases the likelihood of large hail. 

 

Twenty four hour rainfall through 7 am CDT on 06/11/2007. Very heavy rain occurred as well, with spotty flash flooding. Nearly stationary storms near Ico (Grant County) produced over two inches of rain. Some roads were covered by water in the area.

Other reports included 2.23 inches at Gilbert (Searcy County), 2.00 inches at Greers Ferry Lake (Cleburne County), 1.63 inches at Bluff City (Nevada County), 1.60 inches at Jasper (Newton County), 1.47 inches at Damascus (Van Buren County), 1.41 inches at Lake Maumelle (Pulaski County) and 1.28 inches at Harrison (Boone County).
