Blocking Pattern (March 19-25, 2007) |
 |
| |
 |
As the storm system struggled to move, fronts to the north also
had difficulty pushing into Arkansas. One such front made it into southern Missouri before stalling late on the 19th and into the
20th. |
| In the picture: A
blocking pattern set up in the days leading up to 03/24/2007.
High pressure ("H") to the south and east of Arkansas
held up an intense storm system ("L") in the
Plains. Given this, showers and thunderstorms mainly developed north
and west of the state. |
| Heavy rain developed along and north of the front, and
affected Kansas and Missouri. In Arkansas, only isolated to scattered
precipitation was noted across the northern half of the state. |

The WSR-88D (Doppler Weather Radar) showed areas of heavy
rain developing north of a stalled front across Kansas and Missouri at
728 CDT on 03/20/2007. Farther south, only spotty precipitation was
noted. |
| Another front approached from the north late on the
22nd and into the 23rd, with a few showers
near the Arkansas and Missouri border. Otherwise, dry and warm weather
was noted across much of the state. High pressure slowly shifted to the east by the 26th and 27th, with the storm system
finally allowed to approach. There were better chances for
precipitation, and isolated severe weather. |
