Heavy Rain/Severe Weather on March 17-19, 2008 (Pg2)
 
Weak Tornado/Damaging Winds
The pattern at 5 pm CDT on 03/17/2008. As moisture increased and before the flooding, there was some severe weather in western Arkansas during the evening of the 17th.
In the picture: The pattern at 5 pm CDT on 03/17/2008...with warmth and moisture surging to the north with a warm front from the Gulf Coast region, and a stationary front in southern Missouri. Heavy rain is expected to develop between the two fronts.

 

One storm produced penny size hail at Vandervoort (Polk County), and then tore a roof from an addition to a home about 4 miles east of Cherry Hill (Polk County). A weak tornado was spawned at the latter location. The WSR-88D (Doppler Weather Radar) showed tight rotation within a storm in eastern Polk County around 819 pm CDT on 03/17/2008.

The WSR-88D (Doppler Weather Radar) showed a bow echo moving quickly northeast through western Arkansas during the late morning of 03/18/2008.
During the late morning of the 18th, a bow echo (backwards "C" shaped line of storms) produced damaging winds from Hon (Scott County) to Caulksville (Logan County) to 7 miles east-northeast of Clarksville (Johnson County).

Storm Reports
Widespread flash flood occurred in much of the northern half of Arkansas on March 18th and into the 19th. Some isolated severe weather occurred in the western counties on the 17th/18th, with a weak tornado spawned. For a look at some reports, click here.
