HIGHLIGHTS
September 1, 1947: Hot Labor Day around state with 112 at Conway and
110 at several other locations.
September 7, 1925: Another hot Labor Day with most stations over 100,
111 at Searcy and 110 at Jonesboro.
September 9, 1936: Little Rock gets its first measurable rain in
38 days, ending a record dry spell.
September 11, 1965: Hurricane Betsy reaches southern border of
Arkansas while still a hurricane then weakens into a tropical storm
as it moves across the state with 50 to 70 mph winds and upwards
of 2 inches of rain.
September 13, 1978: Torrential early morning rains cause flash
flooding in western and southwestern Little Rock, extending across
Saline into eastern Garland County.
September 24, 1989: Record early cold wave gives Fayetteville its
earliest freeze ever and a low of 28 at Gilbert.
September 27-28, 1942: Most low temperatures in the 30s with
widespread frost.
September 29, 1953: Little Rock has its latest 100 degree
temperature on record. This was part of a heat wave that began
on the 27th and extended a few days into October with many 100
degree temperatures in the state.
September 29, 1967: Early cold wave drops lows into the 30s and
lower 40s and many stations recorded their record low temperatures
for the month.
