January 3, 1949: Tornado hits Warren with 55 fatalities.
January 5, 1924: Little Rock record high sea level pressure...
30.98 inches.
January 6-7, 1988: Major statewide snowstorm with up to
17 inches of snow in the state...12 to 13 inches in Little
Rock area.
January 10-12, 1918: Heavy snow statewide with up to 30 inches
in north followed by widespread temperatures below zero;
Gravette and Searcy each had -20 on 12th.
January 12, 1898: Tornado hits Fort Smith with 55 fatalities.
January 17-18, 1893: Little Rock record snowfall of 13 inches.
January 20-28, 1940: Prolonged Arctic cold caused the Arkansas
River to freeze over.
January 21-22, 1999: Largest tornado outbreak on record in
Arkansas with 56 tornadoes spawned. Most tornadoes tracked from
central into northeast sections of the state...with 8 people
killed.
January 25, 1950: Peak of mid-winter heat wave with highs in
mid 70s to mid 80s across the state topped by 87 at Searcy.
January 27-28, 2000: A winter storm blanketed portions of central
and southern Arkansas with over a foot of snow...the heaviest
snow in 12 years. Many chicken houses in southwest sections of
the state were crushed due to the weight of the snow.
January 28, 1966: Near blizzard conditions across state; snowfall
of 12.5 inches at Pine Bluff. |
