Severe Storms on February 18, 2013 |

Severe weather was expected ahead of a cold front on February 18th.

| In the picture: The pattern at 600 pm CST on 02/18/2013 featured a cold front pushing into Arkansas from the west. There was just enough moisture (dewpoints in the lower to mid 50s) for thunderstorms to develop. |

| In the picture: A Severe Thunderstorm Watch was posted for the western half of Arkansas on 02/18/2013. Severe Thunderstorm Warnings and a few Tornado Warnings were issued as storms raced eastward across the state. |

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch was issued for much of western and central Arkansas during the afternoon and early evening. Between 200 pm and 400 pm CST, there were several reports of quarter to golfball size hail across the western counties.

Hail this size pelted areas near Clarksville (Johnson County), Wickes (Polk County), Scranton (Logan County) and Mount Ida (Montgomery County).

But this event featured more than hail. Between 400 pm and 500 pm CST, a tree was blown onto a moving vehicle at Okolona (Clark County), and the windshield was shattered. Trees and power lines were downed at Morrilton and Plumerville (both in Conway County).

Just northeast of Bismarck (Hot Spring County), a house slid off its foundation with the help of gusts in excess of 80 mph. One person was injured.

Storms affected areas farther south and east into the early evening. Penny to quarter size hail affected the Little Rock (Pulaski County) area, Sparkman (Dallas County), England (Lonoke County), Rison (Cleveland County) and Star City (Lincoln County). There was spotty wind damage as well. One brief weak tornado (rated EF0) was spawned a few miles southwest of Garland (Miller County).
