PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE LITTLE ROCK AR
952 AM CDT TUE APR 3 2012

...RECORD WARMTH ACROSS ARKANSAS IN MARCH...

RECORD WARM TEMPERATURES WERE NOTED DURING THE MONTH OF MARCH ACROSS
THE STATE. DURING MUCH OF THE MONTH...HIGH PRESSURE SET UP IN THE UPPER
LEVELS...BLOCKING MANY FORWARD-MOVING SYSTEMS AND COOLER AIR FROM MOVING
COMPLETELY ACROSS ARKANSAS AND THE MID SOUTH. AT THE SAME TIME...SURFACE
WINDS WERE MOSTLY OUT OF THE SOUTH AND SOUTHWEST...WHICH ALLOWED FOR A
NEARLY-CONTINUOUS FLOW OF WARM AIR INTO THE REGION. THE RESULT WAS ANOMALOUSLY
WARM TEMPERATURES THROUGHOUT MARCH...WITH READINGS IN SOME LOCATIONS
RUNNING MORE THAN TEN DEGREES ABOVE THE 30-YEAR AVERAGE FOR THE MONTH.

BELOW IS A LIST OF STATIONS WHERE MARCH WAS ONE OF THE WARMEST ON RECORD.
AT 46 STATIONS...MARCH 2012 WAS THE WARMEST ON RECORD...EASILY BEATING OUT
SUCH WARM MARCHES AS 2007...1945...1921...1910...AND 1907. PLEASE NOTE THIS
DATA IS CONSIDERED PRELIMINARY UNTIL QUALITY-CONTROLLED BY THE NATIONAL
CLIMATIC DATA CENTER IN ASHEVILLE NORTH CAROLINA.
