NWS Little Rock Open House (October 20, 2012)

The local National Weather Service (NWS) forecast office held an open house for the public from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm CDT on October 20, 2012. Located at the North Little Rock Airport (Pulaski County), 8400 Remount Road, this was the office's first open house in more than 20 years.

	Activities included office tours every 30 minutes, during which visitors were able to interact with NWS forecasters.

There were three special weather balloon launches. Also, several rain gauges were handed out to those interested in joining the CoCoRaHS program. Six Midland NOAA Weather Radios were given away at the top of each hour.

What is CoCoRaHS?

National Weather Service partners were on-site to demonstrate and explain the important services they provide. The partners included:

-	Arkansas-Red Basin River Forecast Center
-	Arkansas Department of Emergency Management
-	Arkansas Forestry Commission
-	United States Geological Survey
-	State Climatologist
-	North Little Rock Fire Department
-	Arkansas SKYWARN
-	Amateur Radio Operators (HAMs)

There were several donated items, including bottled water, sandwiches and ice cream. A popcorn machine was also on-hand. Over 400 people took part in the festivities.

NWS Little Rock is grateful to its partners for participating in the event. A big thank you goes to those that graciously contributed items, and to the public for the outstanding turnout.
