...A REVIEW OF 2012 WEATHER AND CLIMATE FOR LITTLE ROCK ADAMS
FIELD...

SUMMARY
===========================================================================
2012 WAS THE WARMEST YEAR SINCE 1998...AND THE WARMEST YEAR ON RECORD.
WHILE LOW TEMPERATURES WERE EXCESSIVELY WARM...AND WITHIN THE TOP TEN
WARMEST ON RECORD...HIGH TEMPERATURES LARGELY CONTRIBUTED TO THE 2012
EXCESSIVE WARMTH.

FROM JANUARY THROUGH DECEMBER...THERE WERE A TOTAL OF 17 DAILY RECORD
HIGH TEMPERATURES...COMPARED WITH SEVEN DURING 2011. FROM JANUARY THROUGH
SEPTEMBER...THE TEMPERATURE DURING EACH MONTH WAS ABOVE THE 30-YEAR
MONTHLY AVERAGE. THE HIGHEST DEPARTURE FROM NORMAL WAS DURING MARCH...WITH
A DIFFERENCE OF NEARLY 11 DEGREES HIGHER THAN THE 30-YEAR AVERAGE. COOLER
THAN AVERAGE TEMPERATURES WERE NOTED DURING THE FALL...PARTICULARLY
IN OCTOBER AND NOVEMBER. HOWEVER...BY EARLY DECEMBER...WARM
TEMPERATURES HAD RETURNED. MUCH COOLER WEATHER CAME LATE IN THE
MONTH.

2012 WAS THE DRIEST YEAR SINCE 2010...BUT NOT IN THE TOP TEN DRIEST YEARS
ON RECORD. RAINFALL WAS ABOVE AVERAGE IN FEBRUARY...AND EVEN EXCESSIVE IN
MARCH. HOWEVER...BY MAY...DROUGHT DEVELOPED IN MUCH OF THE STATE...AND
LITTLE ROCK WAS NOT EXEMPT. EXCESSIVELY DRY WEATHER CONTINUED INTO AUGUST...
WHEN THE REMNANTS OF HURRICANE ISAAC PRODUCED HEAVY RAINFALL. BY
OCTOBER...HOWEVER...RAINFALL DECREASED AGAIN...WITH OCTOBER AND NOVEMBER
BELOW AVERAGE. RAINFALL IN DECEMBER WAS SLIGHTLY ABOVE AVERAGE.

FOR THE THIRD YEAR IN A ROW...SNOWFALL WAS WELL ABOVE THE 30-YEAR
AVERAGE. SNOW FELL IN TWO MONTHS...FEBRUARY AND DECEMBER.
