AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE LUBBOCK TX
350 AM CST THU DEC 11 2014

.SHORT TERM...
LOW STRATUS AND FOG HAVE ONCE AGAIN ENVELOPED MOST OF THE FORECAST
AREA ON ANOTHER MILD NIGHT. SO FAR...SURFACE OBS AND AREA WEBCAMS SHOW
THAT VISIBILITY REDUCTIONS WITH THE FOG HAVE GENERALLY BEEN
SMALL...WITH NO INDICATIONS OF DENSE FOG. THERE MAY STILL BE A
OPPORTUNITY FOR SOME DENSE FOG BETWEEN ABOUT 4 AM AND 8 AM...MAINLY
ACROSS THE WESTERN SOUTH PLAINS...WHERE TEMPS WERE SOMEWHAT COOLER
THAN THE REMAINDER OF THE FORECAST AREA.

FOR TODAY...WEST TEXAS WILL BE UNDERNEATH FAIRLY WEAK UPPER FLOW
ALOFT...UPSTREAM OF A WEAK SHORTWAVE MOVING ACROSS CENTRAL TX AND
DOWNSTREAM OF A HIGH-AMPLITUDE RIDGE NOSING ACROSS THE SRN ROCKIES.
LOW-LEVEL MOISTURE WILL REMAIN PLENTIFUL...IN FACT LOW 50 DEWPOINTS
ARE NOW SHOWING UP IN THE SRN ROLLING PLAINS. AFTER THE LOW CLOUDS
AND FOG BURN OFF THIS MORNING...TEMPS SHOULD WARM INTO THE LOWER 60S
FOR MOST LOCATIONS UNDER PARTLY CLOUDY SKIES. IT LOOKS LIKE WE ARE
IN FOR A REPEAT PERFORMANCE TONIGHT...WITH AREAS OF FOG AND LOW STRATUS
DEVELOPING AFTER DARK. WE COULD EVEN SEE A FEW AREAS OF LIGHT
DRIZZLE. LOW TEMPS WILL GENERALLY RANGE FROM THE UPPER 30S NW TO THE
LOW 50S IN THE SE.

&&

.LONG TERM...
THE WEATHER PATTERN WILL NOT DEVIATE MUCH THROUGH THE END OF THE
WEEK ALLOWING FOG TO CONTINUE TO FORM EVERY MORNING THROUGH AT
LEAST SATURDAY. THERE IS EVEN A CHANCE AT FOG FOR AN ADDITIONAL
MORNING ON SUNDAY GIVEN AMPLE LOW LEVEL MOISTURE IN PLACE. SURFACE
LEE TROUGHING LOOKS TO BE DELAYED A BIT AND NOT QUITE AS STRONG AS
PREVIOUS MODEL RUNS INDICATE. THEREFORE THIS WEEKEND MAY NOT BE
QUITE AS BREEZY AND WARM AS PREVIOUSLY THOUGHT.

THE TROUGH SPURRING THE SURFACE CYCLOGENESIS IS IN PRETTY GOOD
AGREEMENT AMONG THE MODELS SHOWING A PROGRESSIVE SYSTEM WITH A
QUICK CHANCE AT PRECIPITATION FROM LATE SATURDAY THROUGH THE DAY
ON SUNDAY. THE LATEST MODEL RUNS SHOW THE CLOSED LOW AT 500MB
CROSSING OVER THE SOUTHERN TEXAS PANHANDLE ON SUNDAY BEING
ACCOMPANIED BY A PACIFIC COLD FRONT. A STRONGER POLAR COLD FRONT
WILL MOVE THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT. SOME WRAP AROUND MOISTURE MAY BE
ABLE TO REACH INTO THE EXTREME SOUTHERN TEXAS PANHANDLE ON SUNDAY
NIGHT BUT IS NOT LOOKING LIKELY.
